Am I correct in assuming that EGL ''VG'' on Cut quality is worse than GIA ''VG''?

Also, what would be some things to watch out for when buying EGL reported rocks?

THere are no absolutes and it depends on whether you''re talkiing EGL USA, EGL Europe, EGL Israel. They all differ. But, time and time again, it has been demonstrated that GIA is stricter than EGL and GIA is more respected. If EGL is naturally softer, it would stand to reason that a GIA VG is better than EGL VG. You do get what you pay for. For me, I wanted a diamond graded by GIA. It was important that I got the best quality I could get for my money.

Good luck with your purchase..........

I agree, it all depends...I have a gorgeous EGL USA graded EC and I l

ve it! It is a beautiful stone...just do your research and know what to look for.

Yes you need to assume that the EGL grading might be softer than GIA graded diamonds. It seems EGL USA is the best of the bunch for accuracy of the EGL labs. There are great diamonds out there with EGL certs ( I know as I have one) but you need to know what to look for and have patience to enjoy the hunt. Best thing is to have an independant appraisal if you are considering an EGL graded stone, to make sure it checks out. Also I would be careful with EGL VG cut grade as I don''t know what they are basing this on. Read the tutorials to learn about cut, that way any contenders you can judge more easily yourself if the cut is likely to be good. Also EGL grade crown and pavillion angles in percents which aren''t as accurate as angles.
