Hi all,

Thanks everyone for your insight -- I have been reading everyone''s advice, and finally decided to register.

I have started to consider purchasing an EGL cert''ed diamond with better stats to offset EGL''s reputation for softness. I found a great deal on a few EGLs from a reputable online retailer (a PS sponsor). However, my favorite has an EGL international cert beginning with AY. Any idea where this is from?

Assuming I purchase that diamond, I would definitely need to get an independent appraisal. What''s a reasonable price for an appraisal (1.75c diamond)?

Also, I am aware that EGL may be soft, but I would assume I can at least be comfortable with the fact that it''s actually a diamond.

I believe AY is Belgium.

EGLI would certainly get right that it’s a diamond and if you are confident that nothing has happened to it since their inspection and that it’s the report for the diamond that they examined than yes, you can be confident of that.

Different appraisers charge different rates for their services, as well as offering a variety of different services for their money. Many, including myself, have their rates listed on their websites. All that I know are happy to provide you with a no obligation estimate if you call or email them before any work is done.

Yes, that report is most likely EGL-Antwerp. A decent lab, but I've disagreed with them in the past as much as 2 grades on color and sometimes 1 grade on clarity, as well as disagreeing on their perception of the level of fluorescence. Still, better than many labs overall.

A loose 1.75 ct. diamond appraisal will probably cost you somewhere between $125 to $200, depending on the appraiser.

Maybe we can help with your decision. Would you post the info from the EGL Report?
