All I am saying DG is that if the stone has no part of the natural that intrudes into the inside of the stone then it is not by word definition an "inclusion" it is a surface feature

But different labs make different rules to "talk" to the world.

Arguably a perfectly flat natural is not an inclusion, and a rough one like this is not - but it is all about grading rules.
HRD established and published rules that OctoNus computerized into their rough diamond scanners. But GIA backed away from any such standardization when it was being worked on in the 1990''s by a standards body.

I understand, thanks...

But I understand that GIA prefered to keep all options "open" vs. standardization..., did i understand correctly?

I - umh, errr, yes, maybe I think so???

What size is the stone? Approximate if it is a touchy issue.

I am with srmdr though. If I were to buy a VS1 diamond and it had a natural like that on it, I would be marching somewhere and yelling.

What if your Beau or your religion set a desire for an internally flawless gem? but you are on a budget that puts such stones out of your reach?

And what if it was a well cut stone?
You know that flawless gems are very often not of a high cut quality standard?

The fact that "you" may not like such a stone does not mean that there is not some other person who sees it as a work of art and great creativity to take some thing natural and preserve it and get the most out of it

Wow. Bob, Rich, DG and GIA all agreed on a 'call.' Mark the date on your calendars.

And if someone sold it to you sight-unseen without describing it I'd hand you a pitchfork & torch. I doubt it will be sold via internet though. For better or worse, consumers here may develop expectations about certain attributes which can be non-issues - or non-concerns anyway - in live transactions (optical symmetry is an example). I imagine DG - or his broker - won't have any problems in an eyes-on environment. Those who are interested will be able to loupe & play with it. If they're not interested they'll hand it back.

Hey now
25.gif
You really are too tense in this thread Mr/Dr? Gary. I never suggested some wouldn't find it beautiful, but only said that I would be yelling:) I know my first (and I also know EXPONENTIALLY less significant than this one) diamond had an indented natural and I LOVED it. Even though i never saw it
9.gif
just the fact that part of the original unaltered diamond remained on the exterior was a beautiful thing, and then the fact that it displayed the ability of the cutter to create an incredible performing AGS0 while still maintaining maximum ct weight--a real sign of talent.

so sure, some people might like it, but I can't imagine a diamond that size being bezel set...but maybe you could use it as a cup?

(and that is a joke, it looks like a beautiful diamond for sure, a hell of a lot nicer than mine. but too the uneducated it kind of looks like the diamond is broken? I would hate to have to explain to that people, or to my own eyes every time I saw it, but that is my opinion, to be sure. Anyway, I will step out of this one now as I should never have stepped in.)

And if that ever does Happen JQ I will bring my own pitchfork but you are welcome to come join me

.

Oh and while I have your attention JQ, when it comes time for me to buy a half or full eternity band for my woman, is it possible to come and try some on if we make a trip to NY? I would love to get one of those ACA bands, but I don't think there is anyway I will be able to convince my woman to do it online.... that probably won't be for like 8-11 months though ;)

Ok - you can help me decide on 4-prong or 3-prong 'martini' style pitchfork.

And you're welcome to visit us anytime, but you need to get the pilot to let you off in Houston (pretty normal if you're coming from Tijuana or SoCal).

If not, there are still great sellers located in NY.

Whoops!:) since you didn't have any .6ct (which I had to get so I wasn't beaten out by my brother) in the ACA I didn't do my research. That is actually perhaps a little better though. As I am always going through DFW on my way to and from Japan (when its not chicago.) just going to have to stop over for a little while in Texas and head over to Houston--though it isn't exactly a short hop...I am sure I can work it out. I was looking forward to NY though....but I guess a re-trip to Texas is in order, visit some old friends...

It will be a while though, I am broke at the moment

though she has a bit saved up and will have to help pay for it I am afraid, with the cost of a wedding not too far on the horizon...
