oh no! may he rest in peace! 65 is youngish

Absolutely gutted.
I vividly remember trying to Jump! as a five yr old with my siblings.
I made this lo-lo-lo-lo sound with my tongue before I could talk as a baby to mimic his guitar to let my parents know I wanted to hear EVH play.

Sympathy to the family, the band and the fans
a sad day indeed

2020 sux in every way

HI:

Sad news indeed.

kind regards--Sharon

Very sad....ground breaking artist.
I had the good fortune to see him in 1978 at the Palladium in NYC.
He blew the room away.....

I was so sad to hear that his cancer had metastasized. I read an interview where he said the initial tongue cancer struck in the very same place he would hold his metal guitar pick.

Rest in peace.

I have always been more of an R & B person, but 'Jump' was everywhere and his guitar solo on Michael Jackson's 'Beat It' is legendary for a reason. He apparently did it in one take and for free.

RIP. He was always a fave of mine. So sad...

A guitar god is gone.
So sad. He was a living legend.

RIP, such sad news!

Whenever we see rock and heavy metal guitarists tapping their fingertips on the fretboard with both hands - we've got EVH to thank for that.

RIP to one of the greatest talents in music, I think he passed away without knowing any of the notes on the fretboard still.

So sad :(

"After the news of Eddie Van Halen's death at the age of 65, his ex-wife and mother to his only child, Valerie Bertinelli, posted a heartbreaking tribute to the rock star.
In a post with a black-and-white photo of their family years ago, she wrote she was thankful to be with him in his last moments.

"40 years ago my life changed forever when I met you. You gave me the one true light in my life, our son, Wolfgang," she said. "Through all your challenging treatments for lung cancer, you kept your gorgeous spirit and that impish grin. I’m so grateful Wolfie and I were able to hold you in your last moments. I will see you in our next life my love."

Wolf Van Halen is the only child of the Van Halen guitarist. Bertinelli, an actor, was married to Eddie Van Halen from 1981 until 2007.

"Love you, Ma," Wolf Van Halen replied to his mom's post. Earlier in the day, he had confirmed the news of his father's death with a social media post.
"I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift," Wolf Van Halen, 29, said. "My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop."

Bertinelli replied to her son's statement with a string of broken-heart emoji.
Van Halen hit the peak of its success with "1984," which hit No. 2 on the Billboard album charts, second only to Michael Jackson's "Thriller." Between 1986 and 1995, the group released four No. 1 albums.

Cancer is a bitch.

I loved his love story with Valerie Bertinelli. I used to watch her.on television when she and Mackenzie Phillips played sisters on "One Day at a Time".

Me too. It was one of my favorite TV shows back in the 1970s.

I agree. The love story between Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen was so romantic. And what she wrote when he died was quite poignant.

I always thought Schneider (Pat Harrington) was sexy.

I can see why one would find him sexy. He isn't my type but I can understand why you would think that.

I like the cigarettes under his sleeve lol.
Who knew he was a poet?

I ( and pretty much every guy I knew who watched ODAT ) had a crush on Valerie Bertinelli..I always found it touching that they looked alike..they seemed made for each other.
