Economy hit home dust needed

My mom has been working for a school in the cafeteria for the past 13 years. Due to the economic strains on everyone, the schools are deciding to centralize where the food is received from and as part of the contract, this new company will have their own employees work in the cafeteria. So all workers in at least 10 schools will be laid off, my mom included

. We know that for the kids this may be best because it''ll reduce the amount parents have to pay for lunches (at least we think so) but it just sucks that after all of these years, she''s going to have to find another job.

And she loves her job too. That''s the saddest part.

That is such a bummer. I''m really sorry to hear that. This economy just stinks and it''s the regular people that suffer, not the bigwigs that got us into this mess.

Oh Fiery, I''m so sorry to hear that! It''s a tough time for many, and it''s unfortunate that it had to happen at all, especially before the holidays. I hope your mom is able to find something soon.

Thank you. She''s hoping that the changes will fall through or that they will at least offer the job to them, even if it means getting a pay cut (basically getting what she was being paid almost 8 years ago).

She loves this job mostly because of the kids (elementary school) but also because she pretty much knows how to run everything and was hoping for a promotion down the line.

Thankfully my mom is always prepared but I could tell she''s really not happy.

. I am sorry to hear about your Mom''s job...thats just plain awful. But, I like to believe that when one door closes another door opens...and maybe this new doorway will lead to something she''ll love even more...at least that''s my hope for her.

She won''t find out the final decision until January but she says that everyone is sure it will happen.
