So. I have made a few recent jewelry sales on ebay. (I really dislike that they take so much of the money. It's quite ridiculous.) Anyway, I sold a natural diamond ring to a lady. You all know the deal with authenticity checks required on ebay now. This person buys and pays. I go to print the label, and it's a PO Box. The authenticator's address is usually in CA and has numbers and special letters that identify the buyer. This address was on the printable ebay label. How did this happen? What should I do? I canceled the order and relisted it so we could go through the authenticator as ebay requires. She purchases again with the same address! She did end up sending a street address as well after I asked. Does this sound like a scam???

Sounds fishy to me.
Stolen card or identity theft and have it sent to a PO box.
You get stuck with no money and no goods.

I also sell. Not every single item goes through authentication yet, so I’m not seeing flags. Are you saying the fact that it’s a P.O. Box is the problem? In any case just call eBay.

Does the buyer have feedback?

Is it possible the buyer is actually foreign? My ebay store is set up so that international orders go to a central domestic ebay location and are then shipped to the recipient outside the U.S. So even if you're set up for U.S. only, technically that is the case as the order goes to a domestic point and is subsequently shipped.

Or, could it be a military address?

Just throwing ideas out there...

Could the buyer be using a ship forwarding service if they can't get shipping to their country?

I was with an ebay representative for over an hour. She told me the reason I was getting the buyer's address instead of the authenticator's was because when PO Boxes are used, it automatically drops the authenticators. So, I was told my options would be to relist with a different address. I had already relisted again, so I hated to do it again. The buyer did supply a physical address after all this, and had a fb score over 2,000, all positive. BUT, all fb was private. I went ahead and shipped to the ebay provided PO Box address, insured for the full value, priority shipping with tracking. I was told by ebay I would be protected. I guess I will see. Thank you for your input. I don't feel good about it at all, but it won't break me if it doesn't work out. That's why I like selling to my PS friends. I feel like I really know you. <3

The pkg will require a signature from the buyer since it's a high dollar item. I'm assuming the post office will check ID since shipping and insurance was purchased through them. I hope so anyway.

I wanted to update everyone. The sale turned out okay this time. I got paid, but ironically, it was someone I had bought from before, only under a different name. I wouldn't have known had I not recognized the email address. :)

Oh yay!!! I’ve been hoping you would have a happy outcome!!! What a relief!

Me too! I was worried. I don't think I will do that again, even though it turned out well this time. I know sellers have multiple accounts so they can buy and then sell under another name. Their fb was very high and positive, but it was private. When I purchased from this seller, she was super nice, and no worries at all if I had known it was her.
