ebay question

Hi everyone;
I found a pretty Amethyst on ebay, but the picture of it was far away so I couldnt tell much about the cut of it which I know is important. I sent a request for some closer pics of it so I can see.
Do any of you all have experience buying gems off of Ebay? Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Phil,

I have plenty of experiance on ebay. The most important thing is to see how long the seller has been on ebay and to read all his negative feedback to see if there is a pattern. I won''t buy from anyone with a less than 98% feedback rating.

I have a little experiance buying rough gems from ebay, and EVERY purchase has been junk. I don''t think the stories you hear of 12 ct deep blue aquamarine being sold on ebay for $50 are true. These stones are fake. No one gives anything away. Be very careful of the ebay dealers from Asia too.

Hello Gene,

It was a few years ago before anyone knew what paraiba was, but I bought a 2.5ct nice violet blue paraiba in an 18ct gold ring for $800. That was one of my best buys.
