Hi Guys,
I''d like to put it straight that I''m not usually an "ebay person", however I do believe there are a couple "good deals" out there to be had.
Some of you may know I was recently trying to decide on a Tiffany silver necklace for everyday wear - well I came across this one on ebay and *cringe* would really love some opinions.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Tiffany-Co-Silver-Elsa-Peretti-Diamond-Heart-Necklace_W0QQitemZ280214445504QQihZ018QQcategoryZ110494QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

As stated, I''m not that ebay savvy, but I''ve had a couple communications with the seller and she does seem ok, she did promise me authenticity. I have compared the photo side by side to the Tiffs website one and it looks pretty ok to me - but then again what do I know!?

Any input welcome.
Cheers in advance.

arjunajane, i can''t help you as to the authenticity of the ebay necklace but there are just soooooo many tiffany fakes there I personally just do not think it''s worth it to even take the chance. signeedpieces is really the only one i''d consider buying from and i''d just go through their store and not ebay. the only way to know your gettig a real tiffany, is to just get a real tiffany.

others with more knowlegde on the tiffany pieces will hopefully chime in for you though.

She guarantees 100% authentic, but doesn''t give refunds. If u use a cc and go thur paypal and it turns out not to be real u can dispute the charges w/ your cc co. and paypal! So if its a really good buy and u can have it checked to make sure its real after u get it, u would have some recourse to protect yourself incase its not what they said its is.

Hmmm...how much is the Tiffany one new? It might be worth getting if you get it for $139 but sometimes bidding on eBay gets so high you would have been better off buying new/from a store!

I have no idea about its authenticity, but if she says you can return it if it''s not authentic, I would maybe try for it. If she won''t agree to that I''d skip it.

thanks all for your responses, I''ll let you know what I do.

All Sales are Final doesn''t sound good. There should be some sort of return policy.

guess i dont undestand how you can make money reselling tiffany. wouldnt you have to pay more than what you can resell if for? no returns is always a bad sign. i vowed never to buy using a no return policy ever again after i did it once. fortunately i blew enough steam to get my money back in my case, but i dont recommend it.

Thankyou swingirl and Isis - I agree that the "no returns" thing doesn''t look good. However I emailed her on the side and she said I could return if wasn''t happy.
However, I''ve decided its just too much trouble, and as much as I want a tiff piece Nooow, I''m just going to wait as apparently a store is opening in my city soon (currently no Tiff in my state in Australia

Thankyou for your replies!

Here's one on signed pieces...link

ETA: oops, just noticed, no diamond!

i once bought a tiffany atlas necklace from ebay. the seller guaranteed the authenticity and yada yada yada. it turned out to be fake, and i couldn''t get a refund. i looked at it as a good $100 lesson to learned.

i would say don''t do it. they''ll tell you what you want to hear to get you to buy and then they''re gone once they have your money.

it just seems good too be be true for her to be selling it at such a low price, and it even has a diamond in it too!

ETA: just read you decided you won''t buy it. good for you!

Thankyou shimmer for the link! I don''t mind it doesn''t have the diamond, I just like the elsa perreti range.
And yeah, don''t worry Milly I''ve decided to wait and not buy from ebay. Thanks anyway for posting!

Be careful is my mantra and here''s why. I had a Tiffany bangle that my parents gave me and I lost it. I wanted a cuff but they were out of my price range so I starting looking on EBay. After many months I found a woman in New York who had one on eBay that looked the goods. She told me that she got it for her birthday from her parents and she loved so much that her DK bought her it in Yellow gold so............ She also had a Gucci bracelet up but had only sold 2 other things. I bought it for well over $200 and when it arrived without boxes etc i felt uncomfortable but it looked gorgeous and whilst a little big just looked awesome. Everyone would comment on it but it use to fall off my scrawny arm so i took it to Tiffany''s to have re sized. No probs when they looked at it here in Brisbane but they outsource their repairs to a jeweller down the road so after paying $50 off I went. I sat in the jeweller for ages and then a man in a suit arrived carrying blue boxes. How funny I thought but then the man the jeweller the manager of the jeweller and numerous other come over to me and started asking me where I got the bangle from I was too embarrassed to say Ebay as I now realized that I had been duped. What happened was when the jeweller was polishing it after he made it smaller he could see brass under neath. Oh know

. I felt so ashamed!
I tried to contact the seller and surprise surprise she never replied.
Alas it was too late to make a complaint to EBay or Paypal so I lost my money and my dignity.
Happy ending thought DH bought me the cuff when we were in Tiffany''s on Rodeo Drive[:apple:]

By the way the heart looks fake. Just check out the backs of the earrings. I don''t think Tiffany uses plastic backs do you?

I normally would say stay away from Tiffany silver items (especially) on ebay. However, I have sold items from Tiffany (silver ones as well) on ebay and included receipt copies, etc....So, I guess my final thoughts are: Ebay is risky, sometimes you get an authentic item, and ONLY ONLY buy if you can return after having it looked at either by Tiffany''s (perhaps have them clean it?) or inspect it yourself after reading up on authentication marks......

kate thankyou for sharing your story - that sure was unfair of her, and what a crappy what to find ou!
however i'm confused what item you are referring to with my post? I did a link to a necklace that I was looking at, not earrings..?

thanks for sharing though, and thankyou UCLA for the advice.

Arunajane the seller also had earring listed and I peeked at those.

oh, ha ha! sorry I didn''t even see those - like I mentioned, I wouldn''t call me an ebay whiz!
Again, I think the earrings look ok - I''ve seen those plastic back things before and I''m not sure if they''re actually intended for wear..but then again its just too difficult to tell whether its really worth it. Thanks for drawing my attention to it, it is a bit strange she has two tiff items..
Oh well, guess I''ll have to wait till a store opens here *sigh* (scuffs foot on ground and sulks..)
