Ebay help

I edited my last post to include ebay's rules.

I also did a search on this seller, different name from store, but I am familiar with him as I have searched his items many times.

According to his own ebay page, he ships to:

"Ships to: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Japan "

So, why is he now having a problem with it?

Edited to add: On his online website, he states that they will NOT ship to a PO Box.

I understand completely why you are so paranoid since all you can count on is the seller is being honest once you paid the money. I get paranoid even if I paid with paypal worry if I get an empty box or something. Do you have any family or friends in the state who can do paypal for you and you wire the money to them?

I've bought from this seller before, and did something similar. I put a US address into paypal for shipping, had the seller ship to the US, and had my parents forward it on to me. My parents didn't deal with any money, just held the item for me and then shipped it on. This was a long time ago and my US address was not confirmed. I'm not sure if they'd let me do the same thing now because of the unconfirmed address. The seller had no reason to know I was out of the country. I provided a US address and paid in US dollars through paypal.

Can you do something similar?

Dreamer, I JUST bought something from Oak Gem this morning thanks to you!! I am going to start a thread about it in Hangout with your name in the title!

Cool Kal!

I don't really know anyone in the US off the top of my head. Will think about it thouh!

Dreamer, hope it works out!

Yes, I bought two things from them. One is a Beaudry ring, which as I reported on PS, was authenticated by Michael Beaudry himself. That was back in the day when Oak Gem had more stuff for auction. A 10 gram platinum and diamond ring for $1000. Crazy.

The other item was a chain with small pink and white bezeled diamonds (Oak Gem did not list some of the diamonds were pink.) I was going to return the necklace and inquired about the return and got no trouble whatsoever...just an address to return it and they responded within 24 hours.

I bought the Beaudry ring years ago and they had much better pricing then. Still, if you troll often, there are still some good deals to be hand, and most of their stuff is reasonable anyway.

Good luck!

Thanks TGal, and everyone for your advice.

I am confident they are reputable. But I am put off by the requirement of wire, especially since it is contrary to ebay policy. We'll see. I am not so totally obsessed with the item that I must have it no matter what!

Maybe I am missing something. You live in Canada. As I indicated in my last post, according to his shipping information on his ebay auction page, he ships internationally, and Canada is listed as one of the places he will ship to.

We are referring to the same seller, I think - D**k*.

No, I wouldn't do that either. Plus, just because I had a good experience doesn't mean you will. I'd be as cautious as possible!

But I just remembered something...you are communication with the seller via your email account? Because I got an email to my email address that I use with ebay and it said they could only take bank wire. I emailed the seller through ebay and it was fraud...they had me report it and I paid the normal way. They were not aware that I got the email asking for bank wire!!

So yes, don't bank wire!!!!

P.S. I got the email after I won the auction.

This is kind of a weird conundrum...because as a seller, going through ebay, he's going to lose about 9% through ebay fees, and then about 3% through paypal fees - it would seem reasonable that if you purchased the item through his store that he would give you some kind of break, considering that he won't have to pay the ebay auction fees.

And to reiterate what everyone else has said, if you do win an auction through ebay, the safest, and really the only recommended way to pay is PayPal via a credit card, because if things go haywire, ebay is on your side, PayPal is on your side, and the credit card company is on your side.

With that said, if this guy is a reputable seller, and people have had good interactions with him and can vouch for him, then I don't see a huge problem with using a bankwire.

At the end of the day, do what you feel comfortable doing, and if it makes you uneasy or you'll end up worrying about it, then it's not worth the hassle :)

I just wanted to add that I would be uncomfortable with the bank wire request . . .
