Well...I had been standing up for Shane Co. on this board because up until now I had been happy with them. For those that don''t remember, my fiance is in Iraq and so my ring is on layaway until the end of next month. I got a call today that said that since it was more than 50% paid off, it had been sized and mounted so I could come in to see it. WOW. It was like a monkey had done the metalwork. The center stone was mounted nicely, but the basket in which it was mounted was completely tilted! It is a three stone ring, and the basket was tilted at an angle so that it touched the side stone on the right, and on the left there was a space of about 1-2mm, so it looked bad from both the top and the side. I mean it looked awful. I told them they needed to redo it and they said they would, but now I have NO confidence in them whatsoever to do this right. Luckily I still have 6-7 weeks before I need the ring but I''ll have to go check up on them and make sure it was done right. I honestly don''t see how they could have released it from the workbench in that condition, unless they thought I was blind and wouldn''t be seeing my ring.

Sigh

I have pictures of the ring before the stone was mounted and the basket is fine...I didn''t realize that they would remove the basket, put the stone in, then put the basket back on? Seems odd to me, I figured they would just drop the stone in...

Oh no sonnyjane ! I am so sorry this has happened, that sux

At least they agreed to fix it without any argument, hopefully it will be done to your satisfaction.

As an ex-employee of the Shane Company I can certainly see why the poor quality was missed. The quality grading is done by the office staff who are given minimal training on how to quality grade a benchmen work.As a sales associate i wasnt allowed to quality check repair work...after the sale the jewelry and stones were put into an envolope and given to the office staff who in turn gave it to the jeweler. The store i worked at had experianced benchmen and so we had few problems like this...I would check up on the work and deal only with the manager of the store, you will eventually get what you want...I only wish they treated their employees as well as they do their customers then maybe the location i was at wouldnt have so much short term turn over.

I am so sorry the ring turned out so poorly. Just keep checking on it until it looks right.

I have a lot of things from them and some of it could have been done a little bit better but it''s always something no one else would notice - mostly the prongs aren''t always evenly spaced around the center stone or one prong isn''t set right and I get fuzz under it.

Jewelerman, I had a nephew that worked for them and they don''t really treat their employees well enough to keep them around a long time. Of the 2 stores I''ve shopped at one of them has better benchman than the other one.

Other jewelers with a better rep on these boards than Shane Co have also had occasional Quality Control problems with benchwork. Obviously this snafu is not a good sign, but try to keep a bit of optimism about it. They could get it right on time 2! Certainly rely on your own eyes for any inspections you want done prior to leaving the store.

I am excited to see your cornflower blue saph sidestones when the ring is released...

Thanks, if it all works out it really will be an awesome ring :) I''ll just have to keep them on their toes, and I''m not above crying to get my way lol.

What a bummer! It is a good sign though that they are willing to make it right. I would be patient, kind, and strong in making sure that it is perfect in the end!

They always seem very agreeable about doing work on their jewelry. Your ring will be gorgeous.

I''m sorry to hear this happened to you. I do have to say that every dog has his day and maybe it was just an off day for the jeweler? Or an off jeweler? I hope you get it sorted!!

I''m sure that they''ll fix it for you. I''d just keep going back and insisting that they do until it''s right.

Alright! I called and they said they have "fixed it" so I will be stopping in today to see just how "fixed" it is ;)

Bring a camera just in case it has to go back again!

Good luck.

I''m hoping that it will be perfect for you today. Let us know!
