East-West Emerald Cut Dimensions

How big is too big.

Im looking at having a custom made ring with an emerald cut claw set east-west. Problem is I want the band to show a little on each side and im worried that a bigger stone (ive been looking at 1.5 to 1.8ct) will not allow this.

I like the 1.4 to 1.5 ratio and I wear a size 5.5 (i think). I wish I preferred the lower ratios as that would probably solve the problem (though then id be getting an asscher almost!!)...

Does anyone have any idea how to work out which dimensions will be too big? Its hard to imagine how 8.3mm or whatever looks on your finger when your buying the stone from an online vendor

God forbid I have to get a smaller stone

A diamond with that width will only give you about 50% finger coverage on a size 5.

I have a 1.25ct oval set E/W on my size 5.5 finger, and it only takes up about half my finger, so plenty of band showing. It measures about 8mm by 6mm for comparison.
