How big is too big?

Im looking at having an emerald cut stone claw set east west and im trying to work out what kind of dimensions will look alright.

I had been looking at 1.5 to 1.75ct stones but I want the band to show a little on each side of the solitaire and im worried that this size stone wont allow this.

I wear a sýze 5.5 (I think!) and like the 1.4 to 1.5 L:W ratio. I know if i liked them a little plumper i wouldnt be having this problem...but then I guess Id be getting an asscher almost!!

Its hard to visualise when you are buying the stone online and only have dimensions to work with...

Does anyone have any idea how to work this out?

Hi Black,

You really need to get in a jewelry store and look at stones on your finger, that's the best wat to get an accurate idea.

You asked this already here https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/east-west-emerald-cut-dimensions.92033/

A 1.5 emerald cut will be 8mm in length. If you set it east west the 8mm will be the width. On a size 5.5 finger it will cover aprox. 50% of your finger. Clearly you will have plenty of room to show the band on the side

The only best real solution is getting into a store, knowing what measurements you are looking for and having them hold a diamond that "fits" the size you are wanting up to your finger to determine. What might be just perfect for one might not be anything you want.

If you are just looking at measurements then it won''t matter what cert or quality of diamond you see at the store. If you want to get an idea on quality as well then ask for GIA certed diamonds. You''ll find limited availability at store level but it''ll help you get the education down so you''ll know what to search for when ready to get rolling on you ring!

In terms of measurement, a 1.7 ct EC set east/west with a ratio of 1.5 would be beautiful and fitting on a size 5.5 finger. No worries.

And Im so sorry for posting twice - when i looked back for the post i couldnt find it, even when i searched for my name so i thought it hadnt worked - i feel like a right idiot, but then I did post that in Syria!! PurrfectPear thanks so much - two replies both of them just what i was after!!!

Ill hopefully try some stones to get an idea but i feel much more confident knowing that a 1.5ct would only be 50% of my finger - bigger it is then

Don''t forget to post pics. I have a vested interest. I recently purchased a 1.54 EC and I am considering east west settings myself. Looking forward to seeing what you choose.
