E-ring/wedding band - help me plan!

Hi all,

I'm a longtime lurker and first time poster. Thanks to all for the hours of entertainment! I'd like to run a few alternatives to the traditional engagement ring by you (I told my boyfriend not to get me a rock cause I know he doesn't have the money to spend). Here are the options I'm considering:

- Asking him for a slim platinum micropave band as an e-ring and pairing it with a slim yellow/rose gold wedding band. (Would those two make a good-looking stack? Here's my inspiration, though Gisele's WB is thicker than I'd prefer: http://img.purseforum.com/attachmen...d1240471480-celebrity-engagement-rings-01.jpg)

- No engagement ring; waiting for a channel set wedding band. I am picturing an eternity band with vertical baguettes set in yellow/rose gold. (Inspiration: http://coloreddiamond.info/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=781.0;attach=17429;image. Got to love that trinity ring as well.)

- Wearing my great-grandmother's platinum filigree e-ring; wearing it on my right hand after getting channel set wedding band.

The main question is, is a channel set wedding band impractical if I want to wear it everyday, all the time? Would I be better off getting the channel set as an anniversary band and having the option of taking it on or off. I don't want to have to take my wedding band off when I shower, moisturize, cook, etc.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!!

A channel-set band is actually the most practical option if you want to wear something with diamonds on it all the time. I think that's a great option - it can also stack with other bands easily. If you're going to wear it 100% of the time, I'd recommend against micropave, especially on a very slim band. It's pretty but it needs to be babied.

I urge you to reconsider your stance on not taking it off when you shower/moisturize/cook/etc. That will so quickly gunk up the diamonds and make them not sparkly, especially if they are baguettes or any other step cuts, which show dirt quicker than brilliant cuts (though this really applies to any diamond ring). You would basically be having to take your ring off to clean it after each time you did that stuff, which kind of defeats the purpose of leaving it on. Trust me on this, it is WAY easier to take it off while your hands will be having stuff all over them than it is to clean it later. If you doubt me, once you get your ring, take a long hard look at it and how sparkly it is... then put lotion on and look at it. You will be appalled. If you REALLY want to not take it off, either be okay with not-sparkliness, or cleaning it all the time, or get a plain band. (This doesn't mean you won't be wearing it for long periods of time - just take it off when you're getting stuff on your hands and then put it back on. I keep a necklace chain in my purse so if I have to take mine off when not at home I can quickly put it on the chain around my neck. I know Tiffanys sells a necklace with a little caribiner type thing specifically for this purpose.)

http://www.thefacetscollection.com/ has a bunch of great diamond rings.

(However, there are also a lot of used baguette bands floating around out there, and if you want to look for a deal, that's what you should be looking at.)

Not sure what your size is but here are some good deals on some bands I found :) There are many shapes/sizes/designs it just depends on your budget/style that you are shooting for.

This needs some TLC but I bet it can be re-engraved and look really beautiful again

Have you considered a rolling ring (this is just an example-there are many types including ones with stones)

Thanks so much for the advice! It's good to know that channel set rings need to be taken off for activities like cooking, cleaning, moisturizing. For sentimental reasons, and also because I'm terrified of losing a ring, I want my WB to always stay on, so it looks like a plain band is the best bet for me. Maybe I could suggest the channel set as the e-ring. Unconventional, but I don't want to wait till an anniversary to get my first diamond ring

Wiley,

If you don't want an absolutely plain band, you may want to consider an engraved band. There are some lovely antique ones to be found if you have any interest in those.

I realize that some people don't wear their rings everyday that have stones in them but my e-ring is from the 1930's and it held up all that time and I rarely take it off. I used to take it off to shower but since I'm 33wks pregnant it's pretty difficult to get off and I refuse to take it off until I HAVE to-and so it's been staying on even for showers. I think rings are meant to be worn and as long as it's not delicate pave (which mine isn't) I wear them and if I have to replace them/get it fixed it's just apart of the package.

Here are a few more rings I found on rubylane.

Eh, I wouldn't worry so much about taking off your rings and putting them back on. I say, get what you love and wear it, but understand that it should be insured or be prepared to replace it if it gets severely damaged.

I'm one who just leaves my engagement ring, plain wedding band, and a diamond band on all the time, since my knuckle is stupidly large compared to my actual finger size and so it's painful to take off rings and put them on again. I have a plain solitaire and plain 2mm wedding band, but wear my Whiteflash Danielle bezel band in between the two for some extra bling (in my avatar <---). I don't use hand lotion often, but I leave my rings on for everything: cooking, swimming, going to the gym, showers... literally everything I do. I think I'd only take them off if I were doing something potentially dangerous like working on my car or with power tools. If my rings ever look less than perfectly shiny, I just brush them gently with a soft toothbrush while they are still on my finger, and voila! Perfect and shiny again.

I think a diamond band as an e-ring and a plain wedding band is a great idea, or a diamond band and engraved band, both with an antique vibe. I just love stacking bands.

Edited to add a few of my favorite bands that I think would look great stacked with a plain band of the same width:

Did you mention what the budget would be for both rings? I can find more options if you let us know what you like and how much you can spend.

Thanks again! I hadn't thought about the possibility of an engraved band.

My main concern is that channel sets get a bunch of gunk underneath the diamonds, which makes them much less sparkly - especially baguettes. (And I am an obsessive hand moisturizer...) But I just love the look of vertically set baguettes.

On budget, he told me he could spend 10k but that would involve financing, and I don't want him to do that. I'm thinking 5k is more reasonable, and most of that would go towards the diamond band (the plain gold band won't be more than a few hundred).

I am actually loving this one from Kwiat at the moment: http://www.kwiat.com/fine-diamond-j...age-collection-18k-white-gold/p/57749/100/0/0

So many options!
