e-ring setting help, 3500 budget w diamond

Hi,
I've been looking for a e-ring setting for awhile now and thought I was set on getting a half circle band with a 6 prong head, but the cheapest one I've found it at least 1k and usually quite a bit more. I'm starting to think it would be better to get a less expensive plain platinum band with a 6 prong head and put the difference into the cost of the stone. The budget is 3500 for both the ring and the setting. What do you guys think? I could then get close to a .9 carat diamond instead of something close to .7 carats. Any suggestions on less expensive (less than 500) platinum 6 prong rings that sit low on the band? Will it be impossible to find a 6 prong e-ring band that will sit flush with a wedding band? I'm not totally committed to 6 prongs vs 4, but would feel more secure with 6 prongs. I see some plain bands cost almost as much as a band with diamonds. I'm sure they are better made, but at 1k+, I'd prefer getting my channel set.

I've attached a picture of the WF setting and here's the link. It looks ok, but it does look like a lot of metal on the side view. However, I do like that it looks like the diamond will sit snugly on the head instead of having a gap between the diamond and the head. Price is 438.

You don''t say anything about your situation. Is this for an original ering or an upgrade? Can you get input from the woman or is this a surprise?

With what you did say I''d put the money in the diamond and get this plain setting. I have this setting and have been happy with it. It is very classic. That''s just my opinion tho. What does the woman who''ll be wearing it think?

The diamond you picked may be pretty. We do need additional data and pictures in order to find out more, though.
I ran a very quick search, and here''s probably the stone I like the most among the ones fitting your criteria : http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2217/ ...0.828ct I/SI. I also like its price point. This way you wouldn''t have to compromise on the setting. There are cheaper platinum mountings around, but you''d better watch out...Not all are equally substantial and heavy-feeling.

Welcome to Pricescope! When I first started looking, I had a budget of around $5000 and I was looking for a ring that had 4 diamonds down either side of the center stone. After a lot of research, I concluded that it would make much more sense to get a larger and nicer center stone and a simple (but very classy) platinum solitaire setting. I ended up getting my diamond and setting from Whiteflash. Their 6-prong setting is beautiful and very delicate looking. While there is a lot of metal in the ring (it feels substantial), it does not look like a lot of metal. My girlfriend does not like a lot of metal in a ring, and I think she will love this one!

So, my advice is to get the plain solitaire setting (it looks beautiful and very classy) and a larger, nicer diamond. You can always upgrade the setting, but she may want to keep her engagement diamond forever.

Stonecutter...which wedding band did you end up choosing? Does it sit flat against your WF Ering?

My bf is letting me choose the ring since he knows how price conscience and picky I am. Plus I''m the better shopper. It''d be for an original e-ring. I would love to see pictures of your e-ring with a band if you have any.

I''d probably put most of the budget towards the center stone and get a simple setting. Then you can change your setting for an anniversary of something if you decide you want something different. There are also vendors like WF who have upgrade policy''s where you can turn in your stone and use what you paid toward another stone if you wish. Just something to think about. Congrats on your upcoming engagement.

Call WhiteFlash at 877-612-6770 and ask for Jaime...she is GREAT! You can tell her I recommended that you call and talk to her (my name is my username)...she will be a great help. You can tell her what your budget is and she will send you some links of diamonds they have in house for you to look at online. If you end up picking something from them, you can arrange to have it sent directly to an appriaser without having to pay for it up front. That way, you can see it in person with no up-front out of pocket expense. If you decide to keep it, you just wire the funds to them and they will authorize the appraiser to release the ring to you. If you don''t end up keeping it, the appraiser will just send the ring back and all you are responsible for is the shipping both ways.

I agree with everyone, in that my opinion is to spend the money on the center stone--I think in the end you will be glad you did. Maybe not only for bigger size, but for better quality in the size you wish.

I have a six-prong setting and my wedding band sits flush. My e-ring and original wedding bands are knife-edged; I specifically liked the knife-edged design since the bands _do_ sit flush and don't take up a lot of space. They are very comfortable to wear. I have two new diamond bands that are not knife-edged, and they also sit flush.

Like you, I also like the diamond to sit low in the setting, and not be raised up. Mine is basically sitting right on top of the band. Cathedral settings were too much for my stature, lifestyle, and taste.

In addition to the Whiteflash setting, there are other six-prong settings out there (may not be under $500, though) that may appear to have less metal to you. I think they are all attractive in one way or another:

I agree also...put your money into a really nice stone...you won''t be disappointed!!! I have a cathedral which sits high but the classic tiffany will go with any wedding band you choose and it will be a very elegant, classic look. Good luck!
