Hi PSers,

I am a newbie to this world and have been reading the forum for a while..its now my time to get an e-ring and a wedding band. I am still in the early stages of picking a setting. I need help from all the experts here...(you gusy are amazing!)..

I love Harry Winston halo setting. I like micropave on the shank(?) but dont really like them on the basket ( I am not sure what you call them) ..I am not even sure about the basket design. Those diamonds on the basket are so spaced out..Is this even the right side view... I am open for all kinds of suggestions for alternate designs..or ideas ..I havent seen this ring in person. This weekend I plan to visit Harry Winston, Tiffany and Cartier. Any other designers that I should look at?

Stone - I like cushion cut. I read on the forum and have been looking at GOG..any other vendors that I should be looking at?

Thank you.

Hi
I don't think the side view you posted is on the HW ring because it doesn't look like there is a halo on that example. I don't think the actual HW ring has diamond on the basket. Are you set on a designer ring? You will pay a premium for the name and while you will probably end up with a quality piece it will be far more expensive then something of the same quality from another vendor.
So you are looking for a cushion cut diamond set in a micropave halo or just set on a micropave band? I can think of many examples of both of these settings, what is your budget and what size center stone are you looking for?

Hi,

No I am not planning to get a designer ring. This is just an inspiration to get something made or already available from jewelers like GOD or BGD or maybe get it made from Leon Mege.

I am looking to have a cushion cut set in micropave halo and have micropave on the band as well (maybe)...and the wedding band is micropave as well..

Our budget is about 10K for the e-ring and maybe another 2k for the wedding band.

I have been looking at GOG and I think with that much budget I can get maybe 1.2 - 1.45(if I am lucky) diamond.

I would look at Tacori, amazing designs

many of the PS vendors custom make HW style rings and can make them without the diamonds on the basket. I would search through threads and find examples that you like of this style.

for a cushion cut, do you have a picture of a cushion cut that you like? there are many different appearances with cushions. this video explains them

Thanks for your reply. I love the vintage/antique cushions..GOG's AVC make me drool..but can I find antique/vintage cut cushions with other vendors? If so, which ones?

ERD (Engagement Rings Direct) and Leon Mege both have antique/cushion stones.

you can try engagement rings direct (a cut beyond cushions) or Perry Chen at micropave.com

Now my questions:

1) When I do a diamond search on pricescope - lots of vendors show up but not all of them have ASET images available just the picture of the diamond.
- So how do I go about deciding whether the cut is good or not?
- It seems some vendors specialize in cushion cuts but at the same time they have premium prices on those diamonds. Is this true?
- I was reading some other thread where I came accross this diamond on JA's website..now w/o any other info how am I supposed to narrow down my selection?

Thanks!

some vendors will provide ASET images if you ask.

yes but those vendors often carry branded cuts and have done a lot of the 'legwork' for you in selecting cushions/providing images/etc

that one looks nice if you are OK with K color (will probably see some contrast with halo) but I think it is overbudget. a micropave halo setting is around 3-4k.

Thanks!

Got it! Thank you so much!

Yikes! I didnt know that halo settings cost more ..:) . Hopefully they give cut me some slack as I am getting a wedding band as well.

I will start working with these vendors.

One last question (maybe) - Will these vendors make sure that my wedding band sits well with the e-ring while designing them?

if you want the wedding ring to sit flush ask that the halo setting be made without a 'donut'
(example)

Hmm..interesting...but then how do the rings look with the "donut"..Is there a picture? I cannot imagine and need to decide which one looks better :)

this picture might help

Oh..such a cool picture/explanation! Love it!

So then if the wedding ring isn't flush..how does it look? I am trying to decide based on how it looks...flushed versus not flushed..on somebody's fingers....:)

If you don't mind a stock setting then you might like this one. Its also at JA so you wouldn't have to purchase the stone and then send it off to someone else for setting. It also has a matching band and would sit flush against the ering. You will also receive a discount on the diamond if you tell them that you are a pricescope member and 10% off the purchase of your wedding band.

Are you talking about the picture above or is there a link/picture?

If you are on a budget, try eternitydiamonds.com because they have a ton of different halos. I love how you can order replicas of most of their rings so you can see first before your buy. I've ordered a few to look at...love, love the Lauren.

I need help understanding something about halos in general....There are lot halo rings available out there from different vendors...

- from James Allen or BGD - are these pave? Whats a melee?

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/pave-and-side-stones/michelle-18k-white-gold-5563w18
http://www.jamesallen.com/designer-engagement-rings/meno-collection-by-danhov/ring/item_294-3771.asp

- Then LM or SK do micro pave ..my understanding is its more detailed delicate work. Am I correct?

- The BGD and JA examples are both considered pave, I think. The JA one looks like v-cut pave. The BGD one looks more like a type of shared prong pave.

- Melee is the name of the small stones used to create the halo and on the shank of the rings.

- LM, VC, and SK create delicate hand-forged rings. LM uses various types of pave in his rings.

- Here is a link from LM's website about the different types of pave: http://www.artofplatinum.com/vault/pave-types

ETA: The JA ring is a designer piece created by Danhov.

yes these are both pave rings. melee refers to the smaller diamonds used in the setting.

if you look at examples of LM/SK/VC rings you may see a difference in the finishing work/amount of metal showing between the diamonds. if you google search 'pricescope halo' or something similar (perhaps different vendors) i'm sure you will find a lot of pictures of rings that can help you decide!
