E-ring advice

What we are looking for ~as he proposed with a lovely birthstone ring on the beach (sorry-thats for a whole other forum) so I could pick out my e-ring~ is this:

.40-.50 ct round diamond, w/g or platinum, simple setting. I like the x-prong setting but most of the online jewelers offer it for $1000, when I have a local jewler here that sells it for $200 in w/g.

And if you don''t like it, I''d love your opinions on what to look for that''s different. I know most of you are used to bigger, more expensive jewelry but I would appreciate all the help I can get. I also want to know more about H&A, but I can search the forums for that I am sure!

Looks like a great choice to me!

Just to let you know, if you wanted to go a little larger you could drop the colour and clarity a bit, but this diamond looks primo if this is the size range you like!

If I were in your shoes, I''d go a bit down in color and clarity and get something like this: http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-1358297.htm (0,51 I/SI1). Under one carat, it''s likely you will find many eyeclean SI1s. Did you chose F,VS for a particular reason?

Nope, just want to get the best possible diamond for around 1200, because we figure the setting is going to cost around 300-400, and trying to stay around 1500... we don''t believe in the 2 months rule... it''s just not practical for a couple looking to buy their first home, plus with a healthcare job, even a 1 ct ring, might get in my way. Any thoughts on Platinum vs white gold? We are not sure since we may upgrade the setting in a few years... or we may not. I appreciate all the help from everyone here!
