I have been mulling over the forums for quite some time, and reading page after page of specs, advice, prices, etc.

I am looking for a princess cut stone, about .8-.9 ct to be mounted in a platinum setting. My budget for the diamond is between 3-4k. I found a few on WF and GOG but would like some help. Basically looking H-I color and VS2-SI1 clarity. I am looking to maximize money spent on the cut, and willing to trade off the color and clarity a bit for size.

GOG is fairly local to me, and I like the idea of being able to see and inspect the diamond before I buy, but I am not against online purchasing.

Here''s a couple that I have found that may fit the bill.
.808 ct H VS2 ACA at WF 2988

.778 ct I VVS2 ACA at WF 2647

.80 ct I SI1 signature cut at GOG 2070

Will an I color be okay with a platinum setting?
I understand the purpose of the ASET picture, but I still haven''t figured out how to interpret it.

Thanks in advance for helping this diamond noob out

Hi Sprinty

, welcome to Pricescope.

Those are three fabulous stones you picked out. I color looks good with any metal, it will face up very white, though it is a warmer white than D, E or F. Depending on how color sensitive you are, you may see a tint from the side. Since you mention being local to GOG, I would highly recommend visiting the store and having Jon or one of his staff show you some well cut princess in various colors so you can determine your personal "color threshold". You will probably want to call and set up an appointment.

Here is a tutorial page that explains how to interpret ASET images. Take a couple of minutes to read it and feel free to ask any questions.

Thritto. Go and set up an appointment with GOG then :)

Thanks for the feedback. I was leaning towards making the trip out there after studying the gog site and reading the feedback about them.

Can one of you please give me an idea about the one stone on their site:

It''s a .8 ct gog signature princess, I/SI1 AGS Ideal cut, polish and symmetry also excellent, yet the price is lower than some of the comparable .7 ct F/VS1 with ideal specs.

Is the lower price due to the small table size of 57.88%?? The others seem to have table % in the high 60s.
With the other specs nearly equal it seems like such a big price difference between them.

Diamond 1 .8 ct $2070

Diamond 2 .7 ct $3043

I do plan on contacting them, but they''re closed until Tues. and I am so anxious and excited and don''t like waiting

This diamond will be priced lower than the F VS1 as both colour and clarity are lower. Table size is fine, nothing to worry about.
