Pricescope-

I am proposing to my girlfriend in early May 2015 and just got started on my search for the perfect diamond. I am working with a very well respected pricescope vendor and am ordering a diamond and setting sight unseen. I would like for some of you to provide your opinions as this process is new to me and I am still learning about how to read the images (which are below). My request to the vendor was for the best cut and largest stone that would fit within my all-in budget of $7,000 for the ring + setting. The setting will be a platinum tiffany style simple solitaire ring, which will be done using CAD. The quote I received is well below my end budget, and I think I am getting what I want at a reasonable price. What do you think? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

What is the price for the setting? I'd think you could get slightly larger if you wanted to get closer to the 7k all in mark, depending on how much the setting is.

How much are they charging you for the setting? I ended up with a 1.01ct I VS2 AGS000 in a platinum Vatche U113 (tiffany replica) for 7700. The diamond was 5700 and the setting was 2k.

for 7k, I would expect to get a 1ct.
james allen has an I in your price range, with there hand made tiffany repro, youd be under budget.

Ja is nice becasuse you could get all three reserved, get asets....they could tell you if the I is too low to be in a plat solitaire, and if the 1ct H is eye clean....

Just an iea... as I know for myself, its not so much a matter of a .8 ct being too small (that's what I wear) but what you get for your money. I know id expect more for soooo much $$$

Ummm, something is waaaaayyy off if that diamond and the setting are close to $7k. And if it is way under, why would you not want to use your allotted budget for the ring?

Not sure why one would custom make a Tiffany setting when they are easily accessible everywhere.

Re: E Ring - .80C RB in CAD Plat Tiffany Classic Solit. Repl

I appreciate the replies so far. Just to be clear, while I admitted to the vendor my top end budget of $7,000, he found me a diamond and setting for under $5k all in. The vendor said to get a larger stone of similar quality would push me out of my budget beyond maybe a .9c. And he tells me the difference between .8c and .9c isn't worth the additional cost because the size difference is not noticeable.

It seems like many of you are advising me to go bigger based on my budget. Does the stone quoted to me equate to a WF ACA? Thanks.

Yes, go to the .90. There certainly is a visual difference, in my opinion, between .80 and .90. I posted one above from WF.

I also like the .96 H VS2 that Niel posted, subject to seeing the idealscope image. It is not going to be visually larger than the .91 from WF that I posted. The difference is the JA stone is a clarity grade higher, and the WF stone is superideal cut and the JA stone is not. WF has a better upgrade policy if upgrading is a possibility. Other than that, you'd have to decide whether top cut or the VS2 was more important to you. Both have good Tiffany style settings.
