Hi All,

I am still on the quest to reset my emerald cut diamond which is an E color and VS1 clarity, .55 ct. At the moment, it is in a three stone mounting with two trillions. The trillions detract from my center stone because of the color difference and also because of the busyness. While I know this is a personal preference, I would welcome any thoughts on what would look best for my small but beautiful emerald cut stone. Here are the options I am considering.

1. Three stone platinum or 18k white gold emerald cut mounting with two EC sidestones totalling .50 (.25 each)making the ring 1.0 total carat weight

2. Four prong basket Precision Set flush fit platinum or 18k white gold solitaire mounting with stone set east to west

3. Vatche x-prong 18k or white gold or platinum solitaire mounting with stone set north to south

I also need to consider the wedding band factor. My present setting does not allow a wedding band to fit flush with it.

Please give me your opinions and share photos of EC settings.

Thanks.

Do you need the wedding band to sit flush? Mine is set like below; a very low basket in white gold. There is a slight gap between the band and the e-ring but it doesn't bother me because I love the setting. The pic says it's a Mark Morell ring but I found a knock off in WG.

The split shank on mine is a tad more swoopy.

If you still want EW with side stones, how about this as an inspiration?

Thanks for the pics. I''ve seen the Mark Morrell ring before. It is gorgeous! Who did your mounting? I hadn''t thought about doing an east west with sidestones. Love that photo also. That adds another option to the mix.

I a petite person and have small hands so the ring would be a size 5. If the stone were sitting east west with sidestones, the mounting would probably take up the entire width of my finger which would be a plus. Which setting would make my diamond appear largest?

I''ve always liked the look of EC''s with super thin tapered baguettes and leon would do an awesome job!

My local jeweller found the setting for me and set my diamond too. I have no idea where she found it. Basically, I printed the MWM picture, gave it to her and she looked around and voila! I have a size 4.5 finger, my stone measures about 6.5mm the long way, so the coverage is pretty good, I''d say 1/3 of my finger. If side stones are added, I don''t think it''ll span across the entire finger but should come to about 2/3 coverage.

I agree. That''s a nice look but I had that with a large 1.5 carat RB my last marriage! So, I am looking for something different. Consequently that is why I chose an emerald cut stone this time around.

i really like the leon mege or similar style. i can''t speak from experience, but my GUESS would be that trap sides with your stone set north-south would give you the ''more'' look you are after. you''d be adding to the overall bulk with the traps, and because of the nature of their shape i''m thinking they would best enhance your ec. right next to the ec they are the same or similar size adding attention and girth, but then taper away so that the eye is drawn to the center and giving it the illusion of being larger. just my thoughts, not sure if i am right.

that said, the ec set east-west from MWM has always caught and held my eye! however, unless you are dealing with a big stone, 1.5-2 or more carats, it might actually minimize your stone. again, not sure if that is correct, just my guess.

I can see your point about the trap sides adding "girth" however, I am afraid they will look similar to my current setting. The trillions I have set next to my stone are each .33 and they are large next to my .55 EC. From a distance, it looks like one large stone but when you get closer, the busyness of the trillions conflict with the step cut center stone.

hmmmm, i was thinking the same thing as i posted, that traps wouldn''t be hugely different than what you currently have. however, i think there are two cuts for traps, brilliant (so a similar effect to your trillions though probably a little less busy from what i''ve seen of the two) and step cut. if i am correct about this, step cut traps would probably be an ideal compliment to your ec! i think there was a thread with some discussion about the two cuts for traps, try doing a search and see what you come up with.
