Dust for my baby 1 year old girl please!

So my baby Chanel is having a small surgery this coming Thursday (gotta be at the hospital at 6:30am )!!!

She has sort of this little adam's apple... it is either a dermoid or a thyroglossal cyst and surgeons says it needs to be removed. Chanel is a very sweet delicate little girl and I am just nervous for her. I don't want to see her scared... she won't understand what is going on... unfortunately she has to go through this at such a young age.

Please send your good vibes this way. Also... if anyone has been through day surgeries with your precious ones, please share some inspiring stories so that I don't become an emotional nervous wreck!

My one year old has had many procedures done and I think you'll be amazed at how resilient they are. Its actually a blessing that she won't understand or remember what's going on. I think cuddling her lots and keeping yourself calm and happy will be the best things you can do. If you nurse, make sure to really advocate for letting her nurse again post surgery. Sometimes if you don't remind the nurses and docs beforehand they almost forget to come tell you when it's ok to nurse again. That's the hardest part for me. I'm sure you and she will do great. But I'll send dust galore as well as prayers regardless!

Dust! My now 8 month old had surgery when he was 5 months (hernia). I was mostly worried about him not being able to eat past 1am, especially since we had to get up so early and there would be a few hours before the surgery. But everything went just fine. He was a little groggy and cranky that day, but was basically fine by the next day.

Thoughts and prayers headed your way. My 6 month old son needs to have surgery soon to remove a dermoid cyst from his temple. I'm very anxious about it, so I completely understand your concerns. I'm guessing that because she is so young, it will be a lot harder on you than it is for her in terms of fear and anxiety. I hope the procedure and recovery go smoothly for you all.

@Monarch64, I didn't particularly think of Coco when I came up with Chanel... the name just happened to pop up in my head. We were looking for a not so common name that can sound good in both the French and English languages since we are in a very bilingual environment (Quebec)

I have dealt with surgery twice with my little ones (one when one of them was 1 year-old and the other one around age 6). If you go to a medical facility that caters to the needs of children, they will have some special pediatric services/practices in place to make their visit more comfortable. For example, they can avoid the fear & pain of the IV needle by waiting until after anesthesia is administered (by way of a face mask) and the child is asleep. The biggest hurdle (assuming that all goes well with the procedure) is comforting them post-op. They can get very emotional (as a result of confusion, pain, etc.) so be prepared for that. Kids heal quickly and both of mine were back to almost normal in what seemed like no time at all. Wishing your little one lots of luck.

Thanks for all the dust!........

The surgery is FIRST thing tomorrow morning, BUT Chanel just went to bed with a fever!!! If it continues throughout the night.... It will be cancelled. Would really suck because I have been preparing myself emotionally the past several days..... she would go back on the waiting list if that happens....

Canceling and rescheduling is better than the alternative, which is risking surgery if your little one is battling some sort of infection. When my one year-old had surgery, it turned out that he had a slight infection/cold that we were not aware of (even the doctors didn't discover it). They told us after his procedure that he actually stopped breathing on the operating table as a result of the infection. If your daughter is rescheduled, it is for the best.

That is so scary! We did reschedule... they gave me May 16th. Maybe I will keep her home from daycare that week to avoid her catching anything again prior to the surgery..... Chanel is sick now... still feverish and really fussy poor girl.
