Never... I actually get RLS (restless leg syndrome). It''s terrible!

Get some requip, works in about 20 min.

Longest flight I took was too Australia and I can''t sleep sitting up in coach. I am too tall and I feel like I need to get out of the plane ASAP!

I haven''t taken a long flight, but I can easily fall asleep on planes. And cars. Something about the movement is so comforting and soothing!

I think my parents used to take me on car rides when I was an infant to get me to sleep (I was a colicky baby). I blame them!

See, that''s exactly what my parents did to me too! I can sleep in a second when I''m in a car, I haven''t even buckled up and my eyelids are all droopy. BUT, no other vehicle, not on buses, streetcars, trains or planes. Just cars!

Does requip actually work? I''m assuming you have RLS as well..

Nope. Not at all. Unless I''ve been seriously sleep deprived for a long time...

I go with the benadryl technique for long flights. I don''t sleep WELL, but I sleep!

No problems after a couple of glasses of wine!

Generally no, I'm scared $h!tless of flying, so unless it's an early morning flight, and I haven't slept the night before, it's not happening. I've never fallen asleep before takeoff, as that's the scariest part of the flight for me, so right before I'm always sweating like a pig. I'm sweating just writing about it

We went to Thailand for vacation once, and I decided to take an ambien, hoping I would fall asleep before takeoff. Well, I took it, and didn't fall asleep, but had some funny halucinations instead. It was the weirdest feeling in the world, I felt like something was physically pulling me to sleep, but mentally I was awake and fighting it

DH falls asleep as soon as he gets on a plane. I'm so very jealous of this.

I generally have no problems falling asleep on a plane!

Yes! I can sleep anywhere...funny story - I was on a flight from BC to ON a couple years ago and fell asleep mid-flight. When I woke up, I had my head resting on the guy next to me. I was so embarrassed but he didn''t say anything, just kind of looked at me funny. I just pretended it didn''t happen and struggled to stay awake, but sure enough, I wake up again awhile later in the exact same position.

Nope, never. I''m not good at sleeping on airplanes, even on red eyes.

Yes, usually I can sleep. Thank goodness.

when i was younger i could sleep the whole way from DC to Hong Kong, that''s 20 some odd hours. However, now I cannot. I went back in December of this year, and was only able to sleep on and off for half of the trip. I now bring Dramamine with me since it makes me drowsy.

Timely question DF!

I am the self-proclaimed can-sleep-anywhere girl. I fall asleep easily in the car. I can sleep on a hard floor, in an arm chair, on a loveseat or small couch, in the woods. I can sleep anywhere BUT on a plane! I mean I do sleep on planes, but it is very difficult to get comfortable so I can''t stay asleep for long periods. I do a lot of the head nodding. I need to rest my head on something and those neck-pillows do nothing for me. The best I can do is lay my head on my tray table which is comfortable enough for me, but rude to the person whose seat is attached to my tray table!

So I have a red-eye cross-country flight booked for next month. I used my miles to upgrade to first class so hopefully I''ll get some sleep! Is first class much better for sleeping?

I would recommend bringing a regular pillow with you on the flight. I do it all the time now, and it''s a really big help. Even if I don''t fall asleep the pillow is very comforting.

Ha ha DF even my dog doesn't have to fly in cargo! He's nice and comfy under the seat in front of me!

That''s sort of my approach, actually! The night before I''m set to fly, I go to bed late and wake up early so that I''m extra tired on the plane and more likely to fall asleep. I usually have a hard time falling asleep, but this makes it a lot easier.

Plus, the last time I flew I had a bad cold and took some NyQuil and was out like a light, so I will try to have some on me from now on when I fly. After I stock up on the stuff when I''m back home again, that is. England needs NyQuil!

Yes, thank goodness. I have family in England that I visit regularly. The last time I went over there I had almost an entire center row to myself (well, shared with my mother) so I slept really well!

I have a flight to the Cook Islands from LA coming up in September. I really hope that I can sleep during that one.
Cook Islands??? That sounds awesome! I''d love to go there sometime - is this for vacation? How long will you be there?
Its for my cousin''s wedding (the are from New Zealand) but we are staying for two weeks so it will be our first big international vacation together. FI has never been out of the country (well Canada...) so it will be great to finally break in his passport!

Yep I can. I don''t remember anything apart from about 5 minutes of the flight from Frankfurt to Singapore and the same on the way back.

I didn''t used to be able to, but I''m cultivating the ability, especially since I''ll need to travel A LOT for my new job, starting in August.

Definitely! first class is much better for sleeping. Bigger seats and they recline and much quieter in first class. Plus the food and glasses of wine doesn''t hurt. Oh, and then there were the warm chocolate chip cookies, mmmm! Look now you made me hungry!

Ambien is hilarous. I swear if a person takes it and then cannot fall asleep, they have semi-dreams while awake. A friend of mine said she took it and while reading a book in bed found the words swirling around on the page! lol When I''ve taken it, it makes me sleep deprived the next day. . .my DH is the same, as well.
