Hi All,

I’m helping my godparents make a 5-stone ring for their anniversary. For sentimental reasons they would like to use my godmother’s wedding band and have the new prongs and diamonds attached to it. My question is would this be durable or is it better to have the 5-stone ring made from scratch? The vendor said he is able to use their wedding band but no input regarding long term durability. He did say a new ring altogether would be durable.

The existing wedding band is a flat 4mm 14k yellow gold. They would like 4mm diamonds in platinum prongs attached to it.

Attaching photos of my godmother’s band. Last image is of godmother's 3-stone engagement ring. She will be wearing the 5-stone w it (hopefully w spacer in between).

Have a plat top made and use the existing band for the shank.
In this ring the existing band would be below the arrow and the new parts above.

Stuller sells 5 stone findings. Per what Karl explained... The band would be cut and the new piece soldered in.

Or melt it down and use it for the new ring.

Thank you so much! This alleviates my concerns regarding durability.
