So I looked at a diamond today at a private persons office. The diamond looked great and he gave me a copy of the GIA Certificate. When I got home I just wanted to see how the price being offered stacked up against BlueNile.com. I found the exact ring on BlueNile with the exact same GIA Report; same barcode, date of report, etc.....it''s the same report to a T. Something doesn''t seem right. I assume each diamond would have its very own unique GIA report. Can anybody comment on this situation?

Diamonds are listed in multiple places, even though there is only one diamond.

There is nothing wrong with the situation, if the person can get you the original GIA report. I would not even pay for a stone until the original arrived. Too many stories of having to nag the seller for the grading report, even weeks after the sale (though, in all cases I think, the original report did eventually get to the customer.

You can run the proportions through the HCA, if you haven''t already.

SO from what you say, if I went on BlueNile.com and bought the same diamond I was referring to in my post, I would end up with the exact diamond I was looking at in the gentleman''s office in New York?

Yup - assuming that the guy you went to doesn''t have some ownership or dibs on the diamond.

Ditto Julie and Charmy.
