Yesterday was the day for a thorough cleaning of the litter boxes. I have 2 cats and 2 litter boxes. I emptied them, scrubbed with dishwashing liquid, and left them outside to dry and air out in the sunshine.

(My apologies to anyone who''s digging out from the latest snow storm.) Then put each box back in its place -- one in the bathroom, one in the utility room -- took a minute to pat myself on the back for being a kitty supermama, and forgot about it.

Until this morning.

When I got up this morning I noticed a rather strong though familiar odor coming from the bathroom. How could this be? How could anyone have had an accident when I had just fgiven them sparkling clean, like-new litter boxes?

Upon further investigation I noticed a sizeable, perfectly-formed brown --er-- turd on the outside of the litter box.

As in on the litter box. Perfectly positioned on the little rim that''s formed where the "collar" attaches to the base of the box. The rim is about 1/2 inch wide. Seriously.

Clearly someone was eager to re-establish territorial boundaries! I can''t imagine how one of my cats could have conceived of this plot, let alone executed it!

I can''t be 100% certain, but I''m pretty sure I know which cat did this. I''m aware that Maya, my younger cat, can get insanely jealous and territorial.

I just had no idea that she was so devious...

LOL it''s amazing how cats figure out how to do things like that

You''re still a good kitty mama though!

Well, the good news is you have smart kitties. The bad news is that''s GROSS!

Sparkling clean to you was foreign funk to them. They just want their litter box to smell like them

I''m sorry, I had to lol at this. Purrfect is exactly right. They don''t want that clean scrubbed smell on THEIR litter box hehehe. How funny!
