DS and Bliss: Help with setting height!

I am about to ship off my honker to Yekutiel for setting in the Vatche U-113 setting...yippee! I want to be sure that the stone is set high enough that the prongs to not look too widespread and squatty.

How do I communicate this so that I only have to have it set once? I am off the boards until after 9:30pm tonight. Help!

I made no request regarding height and my diamond is set exactly right. I consider it medium height. I know Bliss asked for "very high", but I really think they set the stones how they want. Your stone is large and has greater depth because of that, so I don't see that asking it to be set high would be a good idea. I think it would be top heavy and turn to the side more if it was set higher than mine. Not to mention it would be in greater danger of getting whacked!!!

I am going to remind you of these photos of a 3 ct. stone set in the setting and I think it is very beautiful. I just don't think you can set a 4 ct. stone any higher.

Agreed... I can't tell a difference in height from any of the settings we've seen really. My guess is they are all small variations based on proportions of the stone, not our requests.

Exactly! None of our culets are set below the top of the shank, so I think they are all about the same height.

I just think Vatche is setting the stones at an aesthetically pleasing height (medium, basically) whereas there were a LOT of the Excel settings that I thought were much too low.

Totally agreed on the Excel height. Having had both, the Vatche is set just right for sure. A few people have noticed the ring is set higher than the old one already (the first thing out of 2-3 people's mouths when seeing the new ring)...

Here's a good comparison pic between my old Excel setting and new Vatche U-113.

The stone in the Excel setting was 2.37 ct, but was a more shallow cut. 8.68 x 8.75

The stone in the Vatche setting is 2.33 ct and a more traditional AGS 000 at 8.52 x 8.58.

I told Vatche very high and gave an exact measurement in MM as to how high I wanted it, and they ignored me stating that they decide based on stone size where it should be in relation to how they designed it.

Ha! Looks like sna and I were right about them setting them how they want! It worked out good in our cases because I think they have it right on the U-113, but I am so sorry yours was not how you wanted, Ame.
