Ahhhhh! I am so mad at myself!!! I was just trying my lovely purple radiant cut Umba Sapphire from Gene in a setting and it went flying onto the floor! I picked it up and looked and it chipped the girdle! I hate it when stuff like that happens, I was trying to be so careful too!!! Do you guys know if Gene does any repairs on stones that he's cut???

So sorry about the girdle.

Since Gene cut the stone, he may be open to trying to fix it. It''s certainly worth asking.

OH NOOOO!!! You must email him, STAT!

Worst nightmare, ever, seriously. Whenever I drop my stones, my heart skips.

I just emailed him, but probably won''t hear back from him for a while! I really loved the color of this stone and have sides picked out for it already---it was going to be set E-W with icey white brilliant shields

I had no idea it was that easy to damage a stone. Is it the same for all stones, or does the hardness of, say, sapphires protect them. I have a sapphire to set as my e ring, and I am such a clutse I am definitely going to drop it all the time.

All stones can be damaged (some more easily than others not just due to hardness but also cleavage planes) if dropped on a hard surface. Even diamonds can get chipped if dropped or bumped just right. Usually it is the girdle or culet that tends to get damaged because it is the thinnest part and/or the pointiest portion of the stone.

The stone is gorgeous! I hope Gene can fix it! I hate when I drop my stones, and I have to admit I have done that one too many times. Luckily, I did not chip them!

Chrono gave an excellent explanation! It dropped onto vinyl floor too, so nothing even all that hard

Oh no SCN I coveted that sapphire for so long on his website. It''s stunning. I''m sure Gene will help repair the damage. Is it in a place that can be hidden by a prong or setting? Can you post photos?

I''m gutted for you.

awww, stepcut- I feel your pain! I dropped my pink spinel a while back and it broke the culet- did not break a piece off or anything, but the very end is sort of shattered. I still need to email Barry and see if it might be saved. I was so angry with myself

I hope Gene will be able to fix it for you.

,that sure is a purple delicious looking stone and the shape is fantastic, Hope you can get it repaired.

Maybe we need a post it at the top of CS to remind every to open the gem cases only while seated at the table that is placed over a carpeted surface.

Here are a couple poor pics of the chip... It is on one of the short sides, between the mid-line and the corner.

On a little brighter note, the stone is going to be sent to Gene this afternoon! Please send some sparklie dust my way, that it can easily be repaired!!!

SCN,
I hope you didn't take my reply the wrong way. I just meant it as a precaution to others so they will spared the heartbreak you are going through now. I wasn't trying to single you out as an example or something like that. Sorry if it came out that way. I'm glad that it's on its way to Gene for some TLC.

Chrono-no, just not something I really want to be remembered for I guess!

As someone who is still a pretty new poster on PS, it is tough enough to get respect from long standing members-I guess I really don''t want to be made into an example of stupidity. Not that I want others to go through what I am either!!!

I''m so sorry about your stone! Hope it can be fixed easily, it is a beautiful color.

SCN,
I''m sorry!! Hopefully Gene can work his magic and minimize or completely eliminate the chip.
