Dress Code Descriptions

What would be the correct terminology to use in describing the recommended "dress code" for this type of wedding-

It will be a morning ceremony, overlooking the beach. A brunch reception will follow. Then, we will all load up and go board a cruise. I want people to be comfortable but not too casual. For example, a guy could wear khakis and a Hawaiian shirt, or equivalent. I see women wearing a sundress or something like that.

Beach casual? (This make me think of bathing suits and cover ups)
Cocktail attire? (Makes it seem night-y)

I would probably go with "dressy casual." And if you have a website, you can elaborate there!

Dressy casual seems like the safer choice to me.

I put dressy casual for my rehearsal dinner and we still got a couple of questions, but not many.

I would not put beach casual or cocktail, neither of those really match what you're looking for.

I agree. When I read up on "beach casual," I found it means "anything goes." Not what I want. I think resort casual is a good bet.

However, you should feel free to post this info on your wedding website.

Oh, don't worry, this won't be on the invite, or on any other piece of paper. If it's in print at all it will be on the website. It's more so for when people ask I have a simple term to say.

is "black tie optional" a proper way to phrase it if you want formal wear but don't want people to wear black or white tie if they don't want to?

dressy casual doesn't make sense to me -- is it dressy or casual? I personally wouldn't put anything, but I think dressy beach would do it.
