down comforters - the company store

For those who own and are happy with your down comforters from the Company Store, I was wondering which comforter you have.

I ordered the Alberta Supersize, queen, in medium warmth. It''s 300 thread count, and 600-650 fill power, 33oz. down, with baffle box construciton back in August ''07. It has been quite the ordeal!!

I covered it with the duvet cover from the Company Store - the 300 thread count, supima sateen in chocolate color. After a few weeks, I noticed the tiny down fibers coming out ALL OVER the place! It was like a nightmare. Instead of dust bunnies, I had down bunnies all over the floor. I had down in my hair. I had down all over my clothes. I would cough from choking on down in the air whenever I got into bed. Down in my eyelashes. Eeeek!

So I sent it back. Asked for another one, of the same thing. This was in November. AAAAH...nightmare all over again. Feathers everywhere! I took pictures of the brown duvet cover showing the "attack of the down" to send to them, haha...but they said that was not necessary. However, they did say that they''ve never heard of this happening with that particular comforter. So I thought, "do we sleep funny? Is that why our feathers come out, but NO ONE ELSE in the world has that problem?"

We sent it back again, and exchanged it for the White Bay...no baffle box construction this time...everything else is the same. Crossing my fingers that this one works out (just got it today), but also wondering what others'' experiences are with the company. I must add though, that their customer service is wonderful. I had a 20% discount the first time I ordered, and they applied it everytime I asked for a replacement. I also have not had to pay for shipping to send the bad ones back, nor for the replacements.

How strange. We have never had a problem with ours. I think we have the La Crosse (not positive though).

I want to say, and take this with a grain of salt because I''ve been doing some research for down comforters myself lately but am no expert, that unless you bought a comforter with either

1. a massive threadcount (like 1200) which would pretty much keep everything in, or
2. a comforter wherein they stated expressly that it was in a "downproof cover" (which alot of them do)

that you may have some problems with the down sneaking out.

Good luck with the new one, let us know how it goes because I am in the comforter market too!

My goosedown comforter is doing that same thing this year. It was a fairly expensive one too. It drives me batty! I figure that down comforters have an expiry date, since no matter which ones we've tried, either the down loses its loft eventually or they start shedding. I don't remember the count on ours, but it was reasonably high, and our duvet covers are also high count. If you find one that is ideal, let me know! We'll probably have to replace ours again next year.

J, yeah, the comforters I bought don't meet those criteria.

Someone else told me that 300 TC is not high enough, too, but I'm not sure I believe it. I'll test drive the White Bay, and I'll keep you updated.

Tacori, if you do find out which one you have, let me know.

Lyra, expensive comforters should not be doing this! Did you also purchase from the company store?

Crown, I think it is that one. We got it a few years ago. We got medium warmth too. It is the second one we have gotten from them and we never have had a problem. We do have a duvet cover though...maybe it is keeping them in (though I have never noticed that many feathers when I take it off to wash it.

That is weird, I have used their down comforters (lacrosse medium warmth) since college, never experienced that. Good luck!
