In response to the latest pleas on Wikipedia, I almost feel guilty for using the website without donating. I''m not going to lie, I sort of love Wikipedai, and it of course helps that when you google anything (which I do A LOT!), usually the third or fourth entry is to the Wikipedia page! Of course, it''s not my only online source of information, but I sure do find myself on it pretty frequently. I would be pretty bummed if it was no longer on the Internet!

What do you guys think? If you use Wikipedia, have you donated? If not, do you feel badly for still using the site?

I don''t donate to them, and I use it. And I don''t feel guilty.

Prob the same reason why I don''t donate to Google.....

Google, Yahoo and MSN sell ads on their pages for revenue. Wikipedia doesn''t.

Lol ok, feel free to donate yourself! I''m still not going to.

I really don''t notice ads that much anyways.

Is there a huge reason why they don''t do ads?

I really don''t use wiki that much. I didn''t even know they wanted donations though. Or google or yahoo for that matter. To me it seems kind of silly. I mean why would I pay money for a dictionary that really isnt accurate?

You know, I''ve seen the links to read the pleas and I haven''t. I use Wikipedia and I don''t feel guilty. At least not yet. They don''t use any advertising, which would have to increase revenues. If they''re not doing that for a really good reason I believe in, I might be able to get behind a donation to them.

Now public radio or television on the other hand.... I feel guilty and donate. I''m especially a sucker to donating to This American Life so they can keep the podcast going. I''d be crushed if they didn''t have enough money to keep that up.

Between my DH and I we''ve donated about $50 in $5 and $10 increments. Both of us use Wikipedia extensively. No, it isn''t always the most accurate but I appreciate that there aren''t any ads and honestly I like the idea of user generated content vs. someone else doing the editing for me.

Yeah, doesn''t Wiki consisit of regular people who consider themselves "experts," who write the entries? Maybe I''m wrong. Either way, if the site closed, I''d just continue googling like I do now.

Once my husband gave money to a guy who has run a forum for years who almost had to close it down due to lack of funds. From what I gather, he ended up receiving thousands and that kept his site up. I think he asked for about $20 per person. . .not sure how much my Dh sent him.
