MustangGal, Can we see a photo of your cat and dog spooning? That sounds so funny!

My husband doesn''t like the cats sleeping in the bedroom at night cause they wake him up. So we let the quiet one ( who I can tell thinks he''s really special as a result) sleep with us and the other two sleep in the living room. Sometimes I talk my husband into letting all the cats sleep with us.

One of our cats sleeps inbetween our pillows, the other might find his way up after we fall asleep. Nighttime is mischief time to him though, so some nights he''s nowhere to be found!

My parents sleep with 2 130-150 lb saint bernards in the bed plus a cat. They just got a king size bed a few years ago, before that it was like 4 grown people in a full size bed!

Bella sleeps in our bed or L''s bed during the day when they''re empty. Both cats will sleep w/L at night, and Britta will also sleep w/me at night. JD hates the sound of her purring but I love it. Before we were married, when I''d stay the night at JD''s, he had 2 pitbulls (well, 3, but one slept in a kennel) that slept in the bed as well..drove me bonkers b/c I''d always wake up smashed into the wall and the dogs would be all stretched out.

Our pug used to sleep with us all the time, sharing my pillow! But as he got older he started snoring louder and louder until we finally got to the point where we said our sleep was more important than his comfort. Now he sleeps in the hall in a nice cozy dog bed and has gotten used to it. If I ever get another dog I''ll train him from the get go to sleep in the hall. However during the day or evening if I curl up in bed to watch TV he''s right there with me. He just can''t stay all night.

I feel terrible because my answer was "the special one". Both my dogs are special to me but i have terrible allergies and MY dog is a poodle (they don''t shed) HIS dog is a chow/shepherd mix...just guess how much hair. So at night we all spoon...bf, then me, then my baby. I love it! Though I have to admit that when bf''s dog looks at me just right I saw screw it and take some benedryl, let him up and prepare to be miserable.

NEED I SAY MORE? HEE-HEE!
It''s hard to tell from the picture but he''s actually covering his eyes with his paws. I think the light was bothering him...LOL!

No, they let us sleep in theirs.

This is such a cute thread! Love the pictures.

Our two horrors used to sleep on the bed but I have had to put a stop to it. All the cat fur was driving me nuts and both boys used to sleep on my side of the of the bed. One of the boys used to sleep on my back (I sleep on my stomach) and he is not a small cat and the other on my legs.

NOT COMFORTABLE!!!!

Our cat Salem usually goes to sleep with us, at the foot of the bed. He''s usually up before we are, though. I''m pretty sure his wake up time is around 5am. If he''s hungry enough he''ll walk all over our heads and lick our eyelids so we''ll get up and feed him.

We have three cats. They very occasionally sleep with us. One of them is cool as a cucumber, sleeps all the way through and half the time we have to wake her up in the morning. The other two cats decide its fun to wake mummy and daddy up by playing silly chase games at 5am.

I can''t cope with the cat hair on the bed as well. They all get closed downstairs at night time and only get to sleep with us if we are too drunk/ lazy to put them away.

I must admit I do like it when they snuggle up and purr.

We have 2 burmese who sleep with us, Tinka is a good boy and will sleep all night in what ever warm spot he can get into, but Jet the new kitten has a habit of waking up and wanting to play with his pipe cleaners at 2 in the morning, he will put them on my face and tap me on the nose to wake me up to play as well.

I put him out of the bedroom the other night and and he kept jumping up at the door until he managed to open the door handle and let himself back in... i haven''t had alot of sleep since then!

OMG!!!!

Emma has ALWAYS slept in my bed. Once FI came along she was displaced to just sleeping on the 10-12 inches on my side. Whenever he is on business trips she reclaims her spot immediately. She naps on our bed during the day, slumped up against my pillows. I never used to be a bed maker but if you inhale enough cat fur from your pillows you become one pretty quickly!

Charlie is too active and nutso to be let into the bedroom at night. We normally close him out of the room. I''m pretty sure he sleeps in the hallway just outside of our door.

Before FI and I moved in together, we both let our respective pets (my cat and his dog) sleep in our beds. My cat refuses to sleep in the bed with FI and so she now sleeps downstairs. His dog still wants to sleep in the bed, but I''m a very light sleeper and having a 60 lb dog take up half the bed ends up waking me up crowded into a corner. Plus anytime after 4 am when I roll over or move around the dog thinks it''s playtime and starts whining/barking/licking at me and I don''t get back to sleep. FI sleeps through all of this usually, lucky guy. After a few too many sleepless nights I raised the issue with FI and we came up with a plan of sorts. So now the dog sleeps on a dog bed at the foot of the bed or downstairs on the couch. He still tends to decide it''s playtime way too early though and I think now we really have to consider either keeping him out of the bedroom entirely or crating him. Does anyone else find that sharing the bed with pets makes them think it''s time to get up earlier?

FI and I got a cat together and he has the best bedtime behavior ever - climbs in bed for about 10-15 min of petting and then sleeps on the floor next to FI. If only the dog could take lessons from him...

We don''t have a pet yet, but we are thinking in a female chihuahua some time in the future. My DH says she probably would sleep with us

Exactly. It''s not that the dogs keep me awake all night - although sometimes I do notice when one of them uses my back as a stretching board... It''s that if I slightly wake up at 4:15am - whether it''s to roll over or actually get up and use the bathroom - the dogs act like YAY it''s morning! Let''s go outside! Here''s my toy! No seriously, let''s go outside! I''m hungry! Can we get up now? I love mornings! YAY! Let''s go outside!

Yeah, it''s a wonder they''re still happily married.

I don''t have a dog yet (only a bunny, who is not interested in sleeping in our bed

), but I dog sit for a friend regularly. Her dog loooves to sleep in bed with people (she prefers the spooning position ... especially under the covers ... haha), but I don''t let her sleep with FI and me. The only time she is allowed in bed is if I''m taking a nap by myself or if FI isn''t around. It''s just too crowded with two people and a dog in a queen sized bed, but if it''s just me I have no problem with it. This is probably what we''ll continue to do when we have a dog of our own.

And you are half awake in the middle of the night and you snuggle in and give your DCF (dearest canine friend) a loving kiss and cuddle on the top of his/her head and you suddenly realize OOOOOOH! ,wrong end!

lol!!

This is the best thread Starset! I love the photos, and LS...those terriers are adorable.

Portia didn't used to sleep with us when she was little, but as she got a little older and learned general boundaries and we felt more comfortable, we got more and more lax until suddenly she was between our pillows stretched out lengthwise.

Now she is 5 and she would not be anywhere else than with us. She mostly sleeps between our pillows or with head curled up on our pillow. We even got rid of her crate because she didn't use it anymore. FWIW..she is the best dog to sleep with, she lays as if dead, hardly moves around and is only 20 lbs so she is rarely disruptive. She also sleeps until we do, even if it's 10-11am on the weekends. She is such a slug, she just moves around the house sleeping in various contorted positions.

I have some friends who have crazy dogs who wake them up at 6am on weekends and won't leave them alone til they get up and take them out, oh heck no!! that would not work for us...haha.

Oh but with the dog, king bed is REQUIRED.

Cute thread. I didn''t respond to the poll b/c my dog doesn''t really fit in one category.

He does not sleep with us, he has his own dog bed in our bedroom. He actually takes himself to bed around 8 or 9 pm. Funny thing is that we might let him, but HE doesn''t like to sleep on our bed if we are in it. If anyone touches him he makes a grumpy old man sound and jumps off.

But he does come and get into bed with us around 6 in the morning and spoons me until it''s time to get up. He doesn''t get on the bed unless he is invited though, so I pretend like I am in charge.

Sometimes I wish we didn''t let him b/c I hate the dog hair, but honestly, it''s everywhere even if he doesn''t get on the bed.

Oh, but if we didn''t have a king NO WAY would he be on the bed. He''s over 80 lbs.

Nope. I''m a light sleeper, and it''s bad enough sleeping with FI sometimes!

The kitty is allowed to nap with me in bed. The puppy naps with us if we fall asleep on the couch. Otherwise, they each have their own respective beds.

All four of ours sleep with us. And sometimes I''ll have three right on top of me. It can get a bit irritating if I try to turn over. And sometimes I''ll try to "throw" them off if they get too heavy. The funny thing is, they don''t get the hint and they climb right back on top of me.

Cassanova likes to sleep as close as possible to us. He always has to face us so if we turn over, most of the time he will get up and go to the side we''re facing. He cuddles with me mostly because dh nudges him off the bed but here''s one pic with dh taking a nap.
