Does your diamond do this??

Ok--- so I''ve read a lot of threads on fish-eye and nail head and dark centers with certain degrees of tilt, too shallow, too deep, etc. etc. I''ve seen lots of charts and diagrams which of course I appreciate, but I would love to know-- all science aside-- do your diamonds ever show a dark center? I know some do all the time, which mine doesn''t, but when I am looking in a mirror doing my hair/make-up or washing my hands I can easily see that it''s dark in the middle. I think my understanding is that any diamond will do this with enough tilt, but do you guys ever see this in yours? My sister''s earrings do it too, but I don''t know that I''ve ever noticed if her ring does. I''ve read that other people''s rings do this as well, but I''d love to know how normal it is, considering a diamond worn on the hand must be seen at a tilit most of the time anyway. I would love to hear either yes or no answers to let me know if this is normal. Specs more than welcome too!! Thanks!!!

I have noticed it with my late MIL''s e-ring, but I have not noticed it with mine. I cannot say about my earrings since they are usually on my ears where I cannot see them

Thanks for the reply. Anyone else?

I think there have been threads on this over the past year...Some people say it''s the shadow your head creates, IIRC...? A fisheye is very pronounced. If you do a search on that, there''s a thread around here somewhere and there are some great photos of fisheye examples.

Not to be totally stupid, but what is IIRC? I don''t think it''s a fisheye, I think it''s more the "ring of death" problem, since my stone is steep and deep. But I''ve seen a few other posts about this and there weren''t really definitive answers. It wouldn''t be the shadow of my head if I''m standing at the sink brushing my teeth, but that''s a time I see it. (I''m left handed). It''s just the tilted angle I guess, but I wanted to know if better cut stones look better at these angles too. I guess rejecting science is not a way to get a good answer, I just wanted other people to tell me if their stones did this too. There was a thread about someone who said their ring looked like that all the time and supposedly hers was a really good cut. The only answer was that it was probably shadows and reflections of dark things and she should put it on a light surface and observe it from a few feet back, which I''m sure would help, but that''s not the way you''ll see it on a finger. I have been back and forth several times on doing a recut or just leaving it alone. I didn''t want to recut it only to find out that what I''m seeing is normal, even for more ideal stones.
