Does Whiteflash discriminate against SB and VSB Fluorescence?

I'm on a Mac at home and WF's search page won't perform at all for me - I've tried two different browsers, Camino and Firefox. No good.

So today I played a bit of hooky at work and searched WF on my PC. Interestingly, there was still an odd problem with the site: if my search returned more than 20 stones, it indicated I could go to Page 2 to see them. When I tried, it would always tell me "you must choose at least 2 diamonds to compare." I reported this glitch, so hopefully they are working on correcting it. It made me take a lot more time searching at work than I'd really anticipated, because I had to split up my searches to return results of 20 or less. Fortunately our IT Admin is also getting engaged soon, so I think I'll "get out of jail free" if she noticed my activities. But I digress.

What I noticed was that WF had NO diamonds available between 1.3 and 1.6 that were marked SB or VSB Fluorescence. I searched the whole "other diamonds" section in addition to the ACA and Expert selection categories. I found 26 "medium blue" entries, but absolutely none marked "Strong / SB" or "Very Strong / VSB."

I was really bummed by this discovery, because it means that we won't be able to do business. I'm set on getting at least SB Fluorescence, but I really want VSB.

Did I just check them on a bad day, or is this phenomenon real?

Finally, it''s interesting that you''ve brought this up....it''s a very timely question.

Our primary focus has always been our brand, which is A Cut Above. We also carry Expert Selection, which typically represents stones in our inhouse inventory that we feel represent value for the money.

Fluorescence tends to be a preference thing; some like it, and some don''t. Traditionally, our premier branded line of A Cut Above stones hasn''t included fluorescent stones, so they potentially appealed to a wider base of customers. However, with the growth in customer education, some people such as yourself actually prefer fluorescence, that may be subject to change. I''ll defer that discussion to a new thread so as not to hijack yours.

Our Expert Selection inventory has carried Strong Blue stones previously, and I think VSB as well, so it''s not a lack of willingness to carry them. It''s likely more a fluke of availability (as in lack of). Since we can work from the virtual stone list as well, there''s no reason we cannot source a stone to fit your requirements if you wish. You''d just have to outline your preferences to your sales associate and let him/her work to locate candidates for you.

why do you want fluorescence? I can understand wanting it in H and lower colors but do you just want it no matter what the color?

Yes, I think VSB is just amazingly cool. It's like possessing the diamond version of Clark Kent - handsome in his own right, but you always have the knowledge that, under the right circumstances, your Clark Kent will suddenly become Superman.

I love the very idea of a glowing diamond. Do a seach on PS and you'll find pics of a bunch of awesome VSBs doing their fluorescing show. All I can say is WOW.

lol, i like your reasoning and excitement =P
good luck in your search!

and for the record, I was set on a WF ACA stone so automatically that ruled out any flour. But if stones w/ fl. were included I may have been interested in those too. so my vote would be for them to add them to the ACA line!

I would LOVE to see strong blue fluor in ACA stones! I have been dying to buy a stone with SB/VSB fluor, and as much as I adore my 0.5ct J/SI1 ACA pendant stone, I would exchange it for an ACA with strong blue fluor in a heartbeat! And it's not just about making the color appear whiter; it's just such a cool effect in sunlight.

Sorry to step in here. There is a problem with the Infinity-links on PS, and that is why the links above do not work. Our addresses are php-created and a PS-security measure translates essential characters of the address into another character, which messes up the link. We are working with Andrey to get this resolved, and are hoping for a swift solution.

In the meantime, let me give you the correct links here:
