I know that GIA doesn''t grade cut for fancy shapes but AGS does. However, Tiffany''s stated that the cut of several princess cuts I was looking at is "Excellent." Does that mean that unlike GIA, Tiffany''s does actually grade the cut of the princess similar to AGS? I''m a newbie and with so many different terms, I just want to make sure that my understanding of what they said is correct. Thanks!

I think all Tiffany stones are graded "excellent." if you know what I mean.

From what I know, Tiffany''s specifically does NOT carry princess cuts- if I''m correct, that precludes them from issuing a cut grade on them

That is correct they don''t carry a Princess cut, they have a Lucida cut which is close...

Actually, Tiffany does carry princess cuts now... has been for last couple of years or so. They have them in two styles.

Your sales associate may be confusing cut grade with the polish and symmetry grades. Both of these are graded on a scale that includes ‘excellent’ as a choice. As far as I know, the Tiffany lab does not currently assign a cut grade to princess cuts.

No, they do have princess cuts.. I''m not talking about Lucida. You can see the two princess settings on their website.

The sales associate gave me three gradings... Cut, Symmetry and Polish. Cut was always Ex and Symmetry and Polish varied between Very Good and Ex on the few stones we talked about. I''m interested in what that Excellent cut really means...

I’ld love to know as well. Does this cut grade appear on a report from their lab or just verbally by the SA?

I saw it on the online report the SA pulled up on the computer.

Tiffany lab has online reporting? Cool. I don’t suppose you noticed the URL? This is all news to me as well and I’ld love to have more info about it.

I doubt it''s accessible externally, probably just internal but great point about the URL.. I''ll have to look next time :)

So no one has any input on what Tiffany princess cut grading is all about?
