Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but we need an opinion of whether this looks crooked or not. Is it just us seeing it? If it is there, is it subtle enough that we shouldn''t worry about it? It''s a Ritani ring with a 0.71ct oval centre.

Comments... please?

Another picture.

It does look a bit crooked, but I don''t think I would have noticed if you hadn''t pointed it out. That said, you''re going to be looking at it every day, so I think whether or not it''s worth worrying about comes down to whether you find it bad or endearing.

I have an oval/halo and I ask myself that question a lot. I don''t think it''s crooked. I think it''s an optical illusion.

I agree with Hudson Hawk. I think it''s an optical illusion.

way to hard to judge by just the pics. if it is crooked, my guess is Ritani would fix it.

I do not think that it looks crooked at all.

I''d like to think as an artist that I have a pretty good eye for lines. Either thats a bit crooked, or the outside edging shape is not symmetrical.

It''s not like it sticks out, but its enough that you noticed it, and you''ll be thinking about it everytime you look at it. I''d have them fix it.

that''s it crooked, but I think it bothers you and you paid a good deal of money for this ring so send it back and see if they can fix it for you

, because you should love your ring.

Ovals are weird. Have you ever stared at a big letter "O" for a couple minutes? They always seem crooked...

With that said, the only thing I can see about that picture (and it could be just the picture) is the top part of the oval seems more narrow than the bottom. But I really had to look...

Hmm,

If you ask my long suffering DH, he will tell you I am a stickler for symmetry. In fact scratch that, ask my architect, he has been driven round the bend with 'are they at equal distance'? or 'is that centred'?

I say that, because I saw nothing wrong with pic 1. In pic 2 I felt that the oval seemed to sit twisted slightly to the left of centre. It was very difficult to tell from your shots, but even so that was my initial impression (though only on pic 2).

Get a vernier calipers or ruler out and have a look at the 'mm' numbers.

But really I think you have been given great advice here. 1) If it is an issue it is very subtle. 2) If it bothers you in the slightest go back. Things like that do not go away in time, they can bother you more. Even if you are proven wrong, perhaps you would like that to be explained to you by the jeweller? Like HH says, maybe it is an optical illusion, but you are missing it somehow?

That said,

I love the ring, it is beautiful. And WOW, look at that oval

. Great choice. Don't feel bad, it is a stunner.

Well, that''s the thing. It is a handmade ring. So, maybe it''s a little more excuseable? And, yeah, maybe the top isn''t totally symetrical.

The full story on this is that we just got the ring back from being fixed too, although for an unrelated thing. The ring (band) got bent at work after being caught on a filing cabinet. They had to remake the band as a result. The ring defintely didn''t have a skew before. But, with the re-made band, it seems to.

So, long and short, after being engaged only 5 weeks, the ring was gone for just over 6 weeks to get fixed. A lot of family and friends haven''t even seen it yet. It''s hard to fathom having to send it away again...

I''ve noted that in viewing or photographing jewelry, the way light is reflected and shadows are cast in certain conditions can make the rounded surfaces of rims/edges/borders/prongs look a little "wonky" at times.

I have an asscher halo that looks crooked to me at times. Then at other times looks perfectly symmetrical. With mine I can turn it upside down and SEE that it''s even, despite the optical illusion. Does it seem crooked bottom up?

It looks like the upper right hand corner is "popping" out a bit, and the lower left corner is lower.

I think it looks terrific! Remember that handmade is not always going to be as "perfect" as cast. But this looks just fine to me.
