Hello,

It''s my first time posting ... I was wondering if I could get your opinions. Hubby and I went to look at diamonds for an upgrade and we were quoted 10,200 for the following diamond from a B&M.

Pear Brilliant

10.43 x 7.07 x 4.50 mm

2.06

I color

SI 2 clarity

Polish Good

Symmetry Good

Fluorescence Very Strong Blue

Table width 61%

Depth 63.6%

Medium to extremely thick faceted

Does this sound alright? It looks real nice and I could not see a difference between the loose diamonds and my side stones which are d color, vs2 clarity.

I''m nervous about the purchase and I''d like some feedback.

Thank you, thank you!

Hi NYPrincess

Firstly does this diamond have a GIA report? The other labs might not grade as accurately so this is important to know. Its hard to advise without images so really what I would suggest is you purchase anASET Scope so you can check it out in person. These scopes are easy to use and also it is straightforward to interpret the results with some reading.

The I colour might show a bit in these shapes, check the tip of the pear as warmth can be concentrated there, check it out in different lights to be sure. The very strong blue fluorescence can be a bonus in an I colour as it can help the diamond face up a touch whiter in some cases but check with an appraiser or the vendor if you feel they are trustworthy whether it makes the diamond look cloudy in some lights, this is rare but best to check. Also you could well notice a violety glow in some lighting conditions with very strong blue, personally I love this effect but not everyone does so take this into consideration.

The girdle variance needs checking too, find out whether the extremely thick parts take up a major portion of the stone which you don't want, or whether the ex thick part is on a vulnerable area such as the pear tip for protection where it wouldn't be an issue so much.

Lorelei,

Thank you for responding. Yes, the diamond does come with a GIA report. The report is dated 2006. It might have been someone else''s trade in? Should I ask for a new report? The diamond looks beautiful. I looked at it next to the window and in the middle of the store and thought it looked beautiful in both places. I just don''t want to feel like I overpaid for something. We are okay with the price if it is a fair price but not if it is over because then I would feel like a fool.

What I would suggest is making the sale final on an independant appraisal, it is a big purchase, I wouldn't personally worry about a new report, you can certainly ask if it is a trade in, or it could be the diamond has just taken a while to find a home, pears aren't such a popular shape as rounds for example. I think the appraisal would be the best thing, that will give you peace of mind, just make sure you get a return policy to give you time to get an appraisal.

appraiser tool.

Lorelei,

My jeweler has a 60 day money back guarantee and an upgrade policy. You get price of the loose diamond credited to your budget.

1. The diamond does look pretty but now that I''ve looked at AGS parameters, I realize that it is poorly cut.

3. I spoke to the jeweler and he said that it could take a long time to find a well cut pear diamond, especially a pear as they are not popular right now. He also said that I could expect to pay alot of money. I would prefer to stay with him because of his money back and upgrade policy. My hubby purchased my original e-ring from him.

Basically I like pear shape, I can live with SI1/SI2 clarity and although my original is/was an F, I could go down in color as long as it is not glaringly obvious when compared to the side diamonds which are vs2/D color. I would like to stay within the 2.0 range. Is my budget realistic? Is this diamond the best we can get for the money?

Thank you, thank you.
