I am looking to get some diamond hoop earrings. I need to keep it under $1K at the highest so I know the diamonds will be tiny. I''m wondering if the diamond quality matters for melees. For example are the Whiteflash ACA diamonds really that much different than Stuller''s?

I can''t vouch for Stuller''s melee, but I can for WF''s. The melee in my scattered band and cluster pendant are sooooo sparkley for such teeny little guys, I would go for it if you can. I don''t think all melee are created equal....

I can ditto that with WF ACA melee, these wee diamonds light up like fireworks!!

Anyone ever done some side by side comparisons for items with melee? I''m not surprised that the ACA melee sparkle but are they that much different in a 1 pointer?

I have aca in my ring and they really do sparkle. You can even see the tiny arrows if you look close enough!

yes up to a point.
Between premium and h&a there isn''t a visible difference.
Between poorly cut and premium there is a large difference.

Yes there''s a big difference between meh melee and great melee. You wont get great fire and sparkle with meh melee so what''s the point of having it if it doesn''t sparkle and fire?

I bought a pair of little diamond hoop earrings from Blue Nile. They''re nice, with a couple 7 pointers (so probably don''t quite qualify as "melee"). I can''t say they''re very pretty, but do not have the kind of sparkle I''ve gotten used to from premium cut stones...

Cut is king. In small and big stones alike light leakage reduces sparkle/brightness. The greater the intensity with which light returns to your eye the greater the sparkle/brightness. The intensity of light return, or lack thereof, is determined by cut quality.

Yes!!!! Even a one pointer can sparkle and shine like no other if cut well. You''d be surprised at the huge difference!!!! Little melee have arrows, too! It''s so cute! Definitely concentrate on good melee -- you will be blown away by how good melee can shoot off fire, as small as they are! Little fireballs!

Just go over to the mall and check out the melee that Zales and Kays use in their jewelry -- dingy due to the poor color and clarity, dull due to the inferior cut. Of course quality matters!!!
