Hi everyone!

I had a question regarding Tiffany 6 prong style rings. There seems to be so many companies who are putting out a similar product. I honestly love them all. I know some people can see huge differences, but I can''t see a ton of them.

We have been looking at the WF- http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Solitaire/Classic-tiffany-style-Knife-Edge_1137.htm,

Superbcert- http://www.exceldiamonds.com/-Engagement-Rings-5/Solitaire-Diamond-Engagement-Rings-11/Tiffany-Ring-Replica-Diamond-Engagement-Ring-671-640.html

niceice- http://www.niceice.com/jewelry/knife_edge_solitaires.htm

american set co. ( an e-bay store) http://cgi.ebay.com/18k-W-Diamond-Ring-Setting-1-75ctAS005_W0QQitemZ230097853628QQihZ013QQcategoryZ92913QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262

I love the style and I really don''t have a preference. We got the diamond from WF, so I know the amazing quality, but I don''t think I like the WF setting more than the others. My question is, if I like them all the same, should I go with the least expensive setting and put more money into the wedding band(s) or do I risk getting a setting that is not as durable if I don''t get one of the more expensive ones? I certainly don''t want my beautiful diamond falling out! Please let me know your thoughts. The setting will be for a 1.8 ct.

Thanks!

tiff 6 prongs vary tremendously in weight, quality, material, manufacture process , and finish.
Each of those effect the price charged.

Get the dwt for the same size ring, manufacturing type and width for each then you can compare a little better.
Then it comes down to finish.

Well, all the settings you put up (except the e-bay one which I have no knowledge about) are from vendors with good reputations and I am sure their settings hold the diamond well. Six prong settings are usually pretty safe because if you loose a prong, the diamond has a better chance of not falling out (compaired to a 4 prong). I would normally say pick the setting you like best in regards to looks and budget.

However, since you got your center stone at WF, there are a few bonuses from getting your setting there. WF will take full responsibility for setting the stone since it is their's. This means that if they chip the stone during the setting process, you will not be responsible. If you were to send it to one of the other places to be set, or have it set locally, you might need to get insurance for the setting process. You could always buy the setting from somewhere elce and send it to WF (that will cover you stone), but you will be charged with a setting fee. I guess you have to balance all those costs and see which one works best for you.

I actually had that exact setting from American Set for a 1.25 carat!
I had very mixed feelings on it; it was very pretty- had a nice dainty band so the center really pop-ed, but the knife edge was very uncomfortable. I got used to it, but would recommend a vendor whose Tiffany had a softer band.
But I just love the style! I now have a 1.5 carat Solstice and I love that too- much more comfy! Have you thought about a style like this...

GEtting a diamond set at a different place than where you bought it can cause a lot of issues insurance wise. Some jewelers will NOT take responsibility for a damaged stone if they didn''t supply it. I have heard good things about the WF ring so I don''t think you could loose... The excel is also thought very highly. Good luck!!!

Do you get what you pay for? Absolutely. Does that mean that you need to buy the Tiffany brand name to get something durable and quality? Absolutely not.

Any setting from a reputable vendor like Whiteflash, Good Old Gold, Engagement Rings Direct, SuperbCert, etc. should be fine. I personally would stay away from ebay...just too dangerous you never know what you are getting with a big purchase like this.

Ditto LT, great advice!!!

thanks all! Great advice! I think I am really liking the looks of the niceice setting- but not totally sure.
