Does Mervis or Charleston Alexander negotiate?

Does anyone know if Mervis or Charleston negotiate on price? If so, approximately how much percent off would be a fair deal? I know they probably can''t beat online vendors, but I was hoping they could at least be competitive. Thanks

I have dealt with Mervis but not Charleston Alexander. Mervis is a family owned company so I know they will at least entertain your offer. Do your homework and be prepared to show them something in line with what you want and the price you would be able to get the stone for from an online vendor. In all fairness to them, they might not be able to match online vendor pricing but I''m sure they would discuss it with you. If you''re not satisfied with their answer, you can always buy online.

Any idea what you might be looking to purchase?

I think I''m pretty set on getting a round diamond, approx 1-1.5cts. Any tips on how I should start the negotiations? I really dont like negotiating

I have dealt with both owners, Ronnie and Zed. They are fine people but they are businessmen. You'd have to have a basis for your negotiations like prices for comparable stones that you could find online. That's not to say that they would automatically honor them but it would be a starting point. I have found as of late that their offerings online are not the same quality stones they used to offer. Perhaps it is in response to the economy and the diamond buying public at large. Most of them don't know about hearts and arrows stones, idealscopes, etc. They want a sparkly stone for what they consider either a fair price or with a way to finance it.

Again, at the top of the page, put in some info about size, color and clarity that you are interested in. It will give you a feel for prices for a stone in a particular size/color/clarity range.

It is always nice to be able to go in and see diamonds in person. It is also nice to be able to save a substantial amount of money for an excellent cut stone online. You might want to consider both avenues for your purchase.

Other than a 1-1.5 carat stone, any idea about color or clarity range you are interested in? Price range?

Here is a link to a stone that is sort of in the middle of your size requirement. It is an excellent cut stone with H color and SI1 clarity. Not top of the line for color/clarity - surely not the worst. It would be a beautiful stone I'm sure! Just gives you an idea or a starting point from which to start your search.
