Hello Everyone - I have a question about carat weight on GIA certificates. I have a pear shaped diamond graded by GIA with a stated weight of 1.54 carats. When my jeweler weighed the stone on his electronic scale, it produced a reading of 1.539 carats. So, does the GIA round to 1.54 with a reading of 1.539 (assuming that his scale is completely accurate)? Thanks!

I'm not the expert, but I'd assume yes. Actually I have never seen a carat weight listed to three decimal places on any certificate, GIA or otherwise, so I'm assuming they all do (at least the major ones).

Yes. EVERY number presented as a decimal is either rounded or truncated. This includes your jewelers scale by the way. GIA is pretty good about callibrating their tools and I would expect their weight to be reliable.
