I was replying to viewing distances in a thread to Bryan Texas Leaguer when I discovered something interesting.
An extremely shallow GIA X cut!
Not only does this diamond have a depth % of 57.5%, if you raise the crown angle slightly it gets a better HCA score - it is on the lower limits of HCA's shallow standard.

So interesting - also exciting!. Were those your search criteria - the table listed above?

No B&S - just the depth %.
I was making a point in this thread (and shot my own foot)

I love a slightly shallow stone, I hope GIA gets over it’s oddly specific hated of slightly shallow stones. Great bang for the buck in a shallow stone.

Yes, except you can usually find these diamonds with GIA Very Good cut proportions and then they cost 10-11% less!
So you literally get more diamond for less money.

And what is more when the diamond is dirty the outer upper gridle and star facets do not go dull because you are not looking out the back of the pavilion!

The profile of these proportions is just not aesthetically pleasing to me.

I looked over a bunch of shallow gia ex graded diamonds and a pattern emerges.
GIA likes shallow diamonds with 40.8 pavilions and next to no crowns. My opinion is they are all *bleck* and lacking in life in the real world.

57.2% - seriously???
Firstly Karl, I agree that when combined with those huge tables the diamonds will be lacking in fire. They will however be very bright as earrings and pendants. However the 40.8 will draw a fair bit of light (i.e. no light) from the floor. I would prefer a slightly shallower pavilion and not too shallow a crown angle.

I agree 100% with a shallower pavilion and more crown than these combos for a shallow stone I was considering..
