With all the elaborate settings that people are doing nowadays, does anyone still like traditional solitaire settings?

I find my solitaire, usually, more comfortable to wear than my ring with the *fancier* setting. I love the sleek lines of a solitaire.

Also, I have found it hard to justify spending lots more money on an elaborate setting and would rather spend it on a nicer diamond.

Your opinions?

Solitaire is a beautiful classic that will always be in style and lots of people on PS (and of course IRL) love them. Especially because the PS'ers who have solitaires usually have exceptionally pretty ones. There are many people who will always prefer them to the more elaborate rings. I personally don't like solitaire on myself, partly because mine is not a pretty one, but I just really like sidestones for myself, but on others I think solitaires can be very beautiful, and I prefer them to the very busy, overdone rings.

ETA: And lots of people like to have a solitaire so they can put all the money into the stone. Lots of good reasons to have a solitaire.

Yes, lots of us here have solitaires and wear a diamond wedding band with it. I think a plain band on the e-ring tends to set off the diamond better. A solitaire never goes out of style, so it is a good choice for those who like a traditional look.

For rounds, my preference is for solitares... and there are so many lovely ones to chose from posted on here. I love them paired with eternity bands. It''s such a classic and confident look. Strange description, confident, but that''s what I always think about the look. *shrug*

I love the look of solitaire settings, especially paired with an eternity band. I love the sleek metal in a solitaire and how the attention is on the diamond. I'd rather spend money on the diamond than the setting, which is what I did. I love the traditional look.

I love the look of solitaires on other people.

Now that I have one (it''s temporary), I think I can safely say I just prefer the extra bling of sidestones. The solitaire is a look that will never go out of style. It''s classic, and tasteful.

Love them, have one!

I have two and I do like them for the following reasons:
- they are comfortable to wear because the shank is skinny
- they can be dressed up or down because they are simple
- there is enough room on your finger if you want a more elaborate look which you can get by adding fancy bands
- they are timeless

I think solitaires are classic and beautiful. But, on my giant hands, I either need a 3+ct rock to get the coverage, or a little pave. Pave''s cheaper.

I love solitaires, especially with eternity bands!! Every time I see my friend''s Tiffany set, I feel a twinge of jealousy.

Solitares are my favorite! They are truely classic and make the stone pop!

I will be getting a solitaire and I think they are beautiful you can have them as elaborate or understated as you like

Simple, elegant and timeless :)

A lot of people like them. They aren''t ever going to go "out of style." I like the idea of the versatility of changing bands with a solitaire.

My diamond is in a solitaire setting right now but just temporarily... it''s just not for me personally... I like "fancy."

I have a solitaire setting. I love it. I think I prefer it to a more elaborate setting for me, but I love to see other people wearing more fancy settings.

I would wear something more blingy, but I would probably ruin the setting as I am a bit clumsy.

Ditto!

when i first started my e-ring hunt, I was very anti-solitaire. But, I have now come full circle and am in love with them. I want a ring that looks like a solitaire from the top, but maybe has some surprise diamonds in the basket area. I agree with what everyone says, you can easily change the look of a solitaire by adding bands and it is a look that will never go out of style! I think its all about finding the right solitaire b/c they are not all the same. I adore the Leon Mege look; they are understated, but unique!!

GOOD LUCK!! Shopping for and trying on rings is half the fun ;)

I currently have a solitaire with a diamond band (not eternity). The solitaire diamond is 3ct set in a platinum cathedral band.....very pretty, and draws your eye to the diamond!

I adore the classic simplicity of a solitaire setting!

Many simple solitaire settings can be very expensive, some more so, some equally to diamond setting (Leon M for example).

I have an expression I use often. "If it is never in fashion it can never go out of fashion" - applies to home decor, clothing, jewellery etc.

Do what you like, its your ring.

Count me in the ''yes'' column, but I also love diamond set and 3 stone ring too. ''Its all good''

Love em! I''ve never been one for trends, fads.. etc...

Especially love the look of a MM Sunburst... the fluid lines.. the polish on that platinum... YUM!

I love solitaire settings.

I love them all! My e-ring is a solitaire, and my anniversary ring is a three stone.

Yes, count me in on the soliltaires. A ring with only one diamond.....no pave & no side stones.

I love them. In a solitaire, the center diamond really pops. It''s the star!

yup, I think everything you said is true. Simpler settings are more versatile, comfortable, and in many cases (though not all) less expensive than more elaborate settings. Solitaire settings are still very prominent in the world and very popular. But vintage styles are in trend at the moment, and many people love them. Maybe these settings will become classics and stay in fashion for years, maybe they won''t. But in the end it really is all about your preference.

For me, I wanted to get a good diamond for my money, of course. But the setting being "different" and "me" was the most important thing - I was all about the look of total package - and so we found a beautiful setting for a spectacular price (about as much as many solitaire settings) and got a great size diamond set in it.

To each his own. But no - solitaires will ever be the most classic/common/popular of all styles.

i always crack up when i see questions like this, because obviously with the amount of people everywhere in the world, YES people are still going to like traditional options!!

but even if they don''t like what you like, who cares. get what you want, that is really all that matters.

I love solitaire settings! The classic Tiffany setting is my first love and is still my all-time favourite, I think. If only money wasn't an object...*sighs wistfully*
