Maybe the vendors here or jewellers could answer too. Does anyone put their main best diamond in a pendant rather than a ring due to the fact that a diamond (although rarely can chip)? What about the wealthy such as Hollywood etc. would they set their best diamond in a pendant because of this. I suppose here it would be different as their large stones may be too large for a ring.

I know engagement rings are for engagements but just wondered about people who are collectors and such of diamonds and want to keep them pristine.

Generally speaking pyramid, most people put their best diamond into the ring. However, with the surgence of super ideals there are people who purchased engagement rings in the past who are married and are purchasing a super ideal cut diamond(s) to put in a pendant. So in this case, the better cut stones are being put into pendants.

Peace,

How about a 2ct pendant super, 1ct on the finger and .5 in each ear?

I'd further Rhino's statement.

For those now on the hunt for supers,

If it's her 1st diamond it's e-ring bound.
If it's for someone who loves her current e-rock it could be a secondary finger blinger or for a pendant as you suggest.

I didn''t put my better diamond into a pendant, rather I bought some stones recently and it was already pre-set into a pendant. It is a 0.3ct F/ VS1 near H&A, while my e-ring is a 0.71ct J/ VVS2. So the pendant is better in some ways, does this help at all? Haha, what I was trying to say is, after having a wellcut e-ring stone, I want a well cut pendant, earrings, etc,etc too just like what the vendors above are saying.

My feelings about pendants are while they are nice, you can''t enjoy them as much as e-rings, RHRs, or bracelets because you can''t see the stones without looking in a mirror. Also there is the possible problem of the chain only being as strong as the weakest link. I don''t know how many times my diamond pendant has fallen off while I towel off from the shower. Maybe I got the towel stuck on the clasp somehow. It is for these reasons that my least expensive stone (.75 E-I1 MQ) is set in a pendant, while my 1.47 F-VS1 MQ is set in a RHR and a 3.01 F-SI1 Pear is in my e-ring.

I would not put my ''best diamond'' into a pendant vs a ring.....precisely why cflutist noted, primarily because they aren''t as visible as when they are on the neck. #1 I never would see the stone unless I was staring into the mirror much, which I do not do and #2 I would be afraid to lose it if it was a pricey piece...unless I had it insured.

I have often thought it would be fabulous to have a stone like my first white brilliant BIC type one...with a larger table and lots of white sparkle, because on the neck that is what tends to stand out more in my opinion, the bright white sparkles from a pendant. I don''t know that I would be as interested in fire or scint from a pendant, but more the white brilliant sparkles. Bodes well for me because if I could find a stone like the one I used to have, it would probably be cheaper than a superideal anyway!

That said, I would not be totally against doing a super in a pendant though..I love my .38c Regent but would go up to about 1c with a pendant, though if it was a superideal I would probably go as low as J or K SI2 for the pendant without a hesitation. I guess if all my stones were supers or H&A then it wouldn''t be my BEST diamond in my pendant after all?

I think 1c on the neck, 2-3c on the hand and 1c EACH in the ears is good enough!

I don''t think pendants are any safer than rings for the very reason Cflutist suggested. But, if I were a elite member of hollywood, I''d be setting all kinds of expensive stones into pendants, including square emerald cut red diamonds (that PBS showed recently on a diamond program

My pendant has a D stone in it only because I had the loose stone and wanted a pendant. Now, if I could do over, I''d probably have set the D into a RHR and purchased a pretty H-I color diamond for the pendant.

I put my original e-ring diamond into a pendant (my avatar) when I upgraded to a larger stone. The original diamond was a G as compared to the I colored stone I have now so in that respect it is a "better" diamond.

I used to think a big and nicer cut (H&A) diamond should set as a solitaire so I get to look and admire my left hand more often while working. Afterall I had paid so much for this little sucker

That all changed when I once accidentally ''knock'' it against something hard and thought "o goodness... i think I had damaged it". So this time round when I purchased this loose stone (H&A), I decided to set it as a pendent instead. I find that whenever i wear it around my neck, people tends to look at my pendent more than talking to me. :P

I once had this rather funny experience. I was busy discussing some issue with this male friend of mine sitting face to face. Then I noticed he couldn''t stop ''staring'' at me.?? Took me awhile to realise he was ''staring''... at my pendent. He just couldn''t help but asked how on earth did I managed to find such a ''sparkle'' ...
After that, he couldn''t continue with our converstion because he had forgetten where we stopped.
Ha ha

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I would be a bit worried about the weakest link on a chain too.

All that diamonds Mara, I wish.

Yeewl, I thought that someone must have done it.

Ha ha

I have the same problem when she wears her earrings... i cant stop looking at em.

I am getting an e-ring upgrade and am debating doing a pendant or having my diamond reset for a RHR. I wouldn''t put my best diamond in a pendant just because I''d like to wear it every day and I wouldn''t wear a pendant every day.
