Does anyone own and I1 if so please tell me about it pic if available, do you regret it now??? Do you see the inclusions has anyone ever pointed them out??

I personally would not purchase a diamond with a grade of I1 although I know people do and many of the diamonds found in chain stores are I1. This is an industrial grade diamond and usually the inclusions are very noticible especially in the sun. In some of these diamond the setting can hide the inclusions with the prongs and often can only be seen through the side of the diamond. I would look causiously when looking for one of this quality to make sure that it doesn''t bother you, it would drive me mad if I could visibly see the inclusions. Really a diamond purchase is all about what you think not the person standing next to you. You can often find much better diamonds at the same price as the bad ones if you continue looking and stay away from chain stores. Rushing into buying is often a bad choice!

My friend recently purchased a ring at a local chain and it looked really nice but didn''t have very good sparkle. Last week I saw her again and aparently the stone moved and now there are 3 very obvious black inclusions sitting right on the side of the prongs. She feels very ripped off and feels like the store sold her a bad deal. Although she took the store telling her it was a good diamond as truth and it was not certified. Even lower grade cert is better then none in some cases! Do you have something in mind you would like to post for everyone to look at??

hope this helps!

HI:

I observe that this is a similar question to your post of last week.

Do you have a I1 stone in mind that you like us to comment on? Can you post links or show a picture of the stone?

cheers--Sharon

Wink Jones at Winfield's www.winkjones.com has some (believe it or not) lovely I1's (and SI2's). He seems to be a very trustworthy vendor, too. Click on the Super Affordable section. I'm watching that section to see if he will get something close to a 8mm RB. What is your budget?

Center is completely clean. when up in front of ur eye it is visual at an arms legnth he said he couldn''t see it. he said he placed it in frot of blue paper he couldnt see it. No black spots at all which usually a si1will have. Condisderng its an I1 its beautiful except the feather. I asked if once in a setting would the prongs camoflauge it.

Yes - I own 2 I1 graded diamonds, one by GIA and one by EGL USA.

I absolutely do not regret buying them, no one has ever noticed the inclusions, they are only known by me. I1's are not created equal, some are eyeclean, others semi eyeclean and others are not, it depends on the individual diamond, type, location, size, colour amongst other factors. It really depends on your own comfort level, some would never consider an I1 in a million years, others such as myself will definitely consider and purchase them if they are suitable. Wen also many I1 diamonds are suitable for jewellery and are in no way industrial quality! Some of the I1's in mall jewellers may not be the best example of the grade, but there are fantastic deals to be found especially with a good online vendor.

I have seen some very clean looking I1s.
See here: http://www.winkjones.com/specials/sa_diamonds.php
These are NOT industrial grade diamonds - they are very well cut diamonds and the inclusions are located such that it does not impede the beauty of the stone.

That said, there ARE truly ugly I1s out there, and most are sold in malls. So, I''d be very picky about I1 diamonds because while there are beauties out there, they are very very few. Most are very badly cut and most are very included (and noticeable). This has to be chosen on a case by case basis.

thank you to be honest all diamonds look the same to mean except for size and color!!! everything else about the stone is perfect so i feel like if its only a minor inclusion why not go for it. im going to ck it out first bf wants to make sure im going to be happy with it without regret thanks for ur post makes me feel better some people tell me im crazy

i actually saw the GIA report and there really is only one inclusion a very thin feather on the side

Like I said, if Mark recommends this diamond, then it really is worth a look! You are not in any way crazy to consider an I1 diamond, especially if an expert rates it highly, if the cut is great and the inclusion is one that isn''t obvious, it can be a great way to get the size you want. Mark will go over the diamond with you, please let us know how you get on and some pics please if you get it!!

Just so that you know my comment was not that all I1''s are bad but most I have seen have very noticable inclusions that can really take away from the piece of jewerly. I have seen so many times people purchase a diamond at this grade level and are unhappy with it. That isn''t to say there aren''t any beautiful ones out there but like I said be cautious and that was said prior to the post about Mark seeing the stone and saying it was a good one. By all means his opinion is very much dependable. I, one time purchased an I1 diamond at a chain store and it was beautiful in the store. As soon as I got outside you could see the feather and it looked like a blue streak or crack in the diamond that only showed in the sun light. Other then that is was beautiful but that doesn''t mean I wanted it in my engagement ring. I feel if you spend $5000 on a ring you should not be able to see noticable flaws in the stone, but then again that is solely my opinion. People shop for size often when they could go a little smaller and get a better quality diamond for the same price that doesn''t look much smaller when set! Have a great day!

HI:

I will reiterate that each I1 stone should be evaluated on an individual basis--as they are not created equal. I have no regrets in choosing RB I1''s for earrings, but then again, they are ideal cut, branded, H & A stones. I considered I1''s because I could, given that cut was king.

I1''s can represent a great value if you can find a nice one. And I think you could trust Mark at ERD to help you to make a great choice. Let us know what you think on Monday.

Bella: My DH and I considered an I1 stone when we got engaged, but found an SI2 that we liked more, and it was bigger. Also, just because a diamond happens to be located at an actual store (mall or otherwise) does not automatically make it a "bad" diamond - just use caution and make sure you are sure of what you are getting. I feel the same about diamonds that are not certified. You can always take a stone to an appraiser and get a second opinion within the return period if you are not satisfied with a salesperson''s word. Good luck and keep posting!

SOme diamonds graded I1 are better than others with the same grade. Occasionally a diamond graded I1 might be SI2 if re-graded. Finally, there are many folks happily walking around with SI2 stone which ought to have been graded I1. As long as the diamond makes the wearer feel good and the stone looks good, everyone is happy. Clarity grading has fairly braod categories with many levels inside each category that no one breaks down further except by negotiation on price. Its a workable system, but leaves room for some stones to be better than others within each category.
