Does anyone know what QAM stands for?

I tried to Google it but what I found doesn't seem to be the answer.
 
QAM is a three-letter abbreviation with multiple meanings, including:

* Quadrature amplitude modulation
* QAM (television)
* Quaque die Ante Meridiem-- Latin for every day before noon, abbreviated qAM. Used in medicine to indicate medication should be taken every morning

Thanks, Karl. That's what I found on Google too. But none of them seems to be in the context of the conversation. Can it possibly have another meaning?
 
What was the context? If it was a spoken conversation, I'm wondering if it could have a different spelling ...?
 
Oh, it was an sms conversation. The context was very light, kind of ha ha, laughing, talking abt words in another language (French) but I don't think QAM is an abbreviation in French.

Ha ha, it stands for "short messaging service", just a text message sent/ received on yr handphone (or cellphone - as you guys call it in America).

What do you guys call an sms over there?
 
Phoenix, they call it text but we call it SMS... :bigsmile:
 
For a prescription it means to take it every morning. QHS would be to take it every night. That's the only thing I can think of. QD is one daily, QID is 4 times a day.
 
Could it be "quite another matter"?

An entry for QAM. appears in a Google eBook entitled French abbreviations: commercial, financial, and general. It apparently stands for quemadmodum / quem ad modum, which is Latin and translates to: how, in what matter, as, just as, or for instance. The French equivalent would be: de même que.

OMG!!! Pheonix, I've missed you... Havent been on PS forever but still trying to figure out a way to sms you on DB since you dont have any current listings. So I wont even try to attempt to answer this one for you, haha. Glad someone else could.

OMG!! I've missed you too! I tried a few months ago to contact you on PS - sent you a post but I guess you must not have been logged in / posting at the time. I myself was absent temporarily for a couple of months recently.

Yes, that 5ct+ - I'm very upset. It was HUGE (11.15mm in diameter) beautiful, white and sparkly/ very firey! I just couldn't pull together the funds fast enough (Mark T was very patient, but that kind of magnitude of cost, I just couldn't put them together in a shorter time). Yes, soooooo close and yet so far!! ;( ;(
