That ring obviously meant a lot to somebody! If it was actually your FIL’s ring, then it could have sentimental value to someone in the family that might far exceed whatever you could get from selling it. Another option would be to hold on to it as your own little gold reserve, and re-use the metal for a new piece that would also remind you of your FIL.
