Another thread got me thinking... I know almost everyone here poo-poos clarity enhanced stones, but are there any contrary opinions? Does anyone own a clarity enhanced diamond and are you happy with it?

No and never would.

Clarity enhanced how? If they enhanced it by using a filler, no i wouldn''t. If it''s enhanced by a laser... maybe, but only for educational purposes. I wouldn''t set it

I have one, it was fractured filled, and I''m the one that sent it in to be done, so I know what it looked like before. The diamond is a .94ct oval, and it looked good for a few months, then I hit it on a filing cabinet, the part that was filled cracked further, and I don''t think any of the filling remains. I now have it mounted in a 1/2 bezel pendant to keep it safe (and I also can''t see the crack when it''s around my neck!).

I don''t necessarily mind a filled diamond, I now just worry about the durability of a stone that''s been filled. I''ve considered getting studs, they should be safer

.

They also usually aren''t cut well.

Whoa! This is interesting... I''ve never heard of anybody knocking the treatment out of a fracture filled diamond! Burning it out with a torch, sure, but knocking it out, interesting. Did you contact the company to have it re-treated? Both Yehuda and Oved guarantee the treatment for ''life''.

The issue I''ve always had with fracture filled / clarity enhanced diamonds is how do I answer the question "is this a diamond?" from a customer? "Uh, sort of" or "Well part of it is" never seems like the right response

Uh... Part of your diamond ''is forever''

Nope, that won''t work either

I''m actually not for or against them, my issue with fracture filled / clarity enhanced diamonds revolves around the disclosure of the treatment to both the initial consumer purchasing the, uh, diamond (?), and the person receiving it.

I had Leshem (sp?) do it originally. The fracture goes 1/2 way into the diamond now, so I was afraid it would completely split if treated again (they don''t take responsibility for the diamond breaking while being treated). I didn''t even bother sending it back, the crack really isn''t noticable since it runs along the facet pattern. After the crack I decided not to wear it in a ring anymore, so getting it treated again wasn''t worth the risk. It looks pretty good in it''s little pendant mounting now

I bought one that was supposed to be "natural with no treatments" etc etc and when it arrived and I louped it, I was certain I could see laser lines. Fast forward to a visit to my appraiser and yes, I most certainly did now own a clarity enhanced diamond.

I was NOT a happy bunny. I contacted the seller who tried to say I was wrong until I sent him photos of the diamond (close up showing the laser lines) together with a copy of the appraisal. A few more harsh emails and I was refunded 25% of the selling price (which was low to begin with so probably ended up being a good deal). This was several years ago when there was less education on laser enhancements so I guess the seller thought it was ok to ignore it!

I don''t love it and I''m acutely conscious that it''s a laser enhanced diamond. Having said that, it''s pretty and if I had bought it knowingly then I may like it a bit more and its flaws wouldn''t bother me.
