Does anyone have a cover for your car?

I park in a garage attached to my building. I don't know what the he!! goes on in there, but my car is absolutely filthy all the time. The straw that broke the Porsche's back was that I paid $20 + $20 tip to have it washed yesterday, and then this morning I went down and it was the most disgusting I've ever seen it. They were power washing the garage this week and I moved the car every single night to a different floor per the instructions posted, but I'm convinced they power washed last night, even though they said they were done. Anyway, I am going to put a cover on Billy Ray because whatever $ I spend will be recouped immediately by all the $40 washes I save.

I don't need rain or sun protection, just basic dust protection. I'd like it to be light enough that I can maneuver it myself, and of course made of of materials that won't scratch the car (but I'm sure that's the case with all of them).

There are a ton of option on the internet, but I really have no idea what I'm looking at. The only real decision I've made is that I don't really care about having mirror pockets (unless they are important for some reason and I just realize it).

Any ideas?

yes, I have one for my car but use it rarely now that the garage is cleaned out and I can park the car in there.
however, when going to events where I know my car will be out in the sun and dust all day long, I cover it.
and, yes, you want the mirror pockets!
makes it easier to put the dang then on and take it off.
I fold as I go and w/o the mirror pockets it would be impossible.

Ooh, I need one too.. I love kitty cats but their paw prints do not belong all over a car.

Hi DeeJay, :wavey:

You need to buy the Porsche Indoor Car Cover! BUT do not use it (or any other cover) if your car has the least amount of dust on it, or it will just rub the dust into the car. You should be able to find it on the Porsche website. It's made specifically for your car, so it will fit and drape perfectly, which is what you need.

Do the garage attendants have keys to your car? Were they moving it around in the night?

MZ, thank you for the advice about the mirror pockets. I have watched several videos on how to fold these things as you go (yes, I will do ANYTHING to avoid studying for the CPA exam!) and everyone seems so proficient at it. I'll be the one in the garage swearing and ultimately just stuffing it into the bag!

Madelise, LOL on the kitty cat paws! My grandmother has several cats and there were always paw prints on the cars when I was growing up. Once there were paw prints we couldn't identify... We chose not to speculate!

iLander, no, they don't have keys. I'm in a six story garage and they said that they would start on six and work their way down, power washing and restriping a floor each night. Well, they did not stick to their schedule AT ALL so the days when I moved my car it turned out to be totally pointless. I will be very careful about not covering it dusty. And just as a side vent, yesterday when I got it washed at a different place they used towels to dry it that left lint all over.

...is that a euphemism, D*J? (I'm reminded of the "Safe Sex" lecture Tim Allen gave to the oldest son on Home Improvement back in the day...)

I have absolutely no advice on car covers, but wanted to wish you luck in finding one so that you can stop spending all that cash on washes! :nono:

I used to have a nice car cover of 100% cotton but it was important to let it dry when wet from rain or dew.
If you wadded it up in the morning and stored it wet for a long time it could easily mildew.

Still, I preferred 100% cotton since it was soft.
Granted I live where it rarely rains, and cotton is very heavy when wet.

About the material scratching the car ... dirt is what scratches the car so even the softest cover can scratch your car if dirty.
The cover slides against the paint every time you install or remove it so keep the car clean and launder the cover often so you are not rubbing the paint with abrasive dust and dirt.

Having a cover became a hassle so I stopped using it when the newness of the car wore off.

Hi Dee Jay,

DH ordered his from SunCoast Porsche, in Sarasota, Fl. Suncoastparts.com They had the best price when he did his research about six months ago...

He ordered the Silverguard Plus Car Cover. We've only used it inside...

DH knows a bit about cars, (they're his babies) so I will ask him. Cuz as for me, I use good ol' fashion dirt and dust.

Yep. I have a cover I put on the Ford to make it look like a Porsche. Lots of people are fooled.

VC, no euphemism, LOL!

Kenny, you raise an interesting point about washing it… I only have a regular sized washer in my apartment. Did you have access to something larger (like a commercial washer) or did your cover fit in just a normal washer?

Mayk, I will look on SunCoast right now!

YT, yes please, if your DH has any advice I will be happy to hear it!

Lulu—HA! There is a kit you can get that puts a lookalike body of a vintage Porsche on the frame of a VW. I actually saw one in Chicago a few months ago. Were it not for the few telltale signs it was a kit and not the real thing I would have thought I was in the presence of a grand old car.

I took it to a laundromat and put it in their heavy duty machine.
Wet heavy gauge cotton weighs a ton so I'd worry that it might damage a home washer, if it would even fit.
Then again, don't you have a Porsche which is a very small car ???
Maybe it would fit.
Read your washer's owner's manual, which may be available online.

FWIW, I don't even know if they make 100% cotton car covers today.
I had mine around 20 years ago.
Perhaps there are superior synthetics today.
