Does anyone else really love the patina on your rings?

I was thinking it was time to have platinum rings polished again, but then I thought about how much I actually like the look of my ring as it has been worn over time. I was thinking about how it represents the all the years that I have worn it. I am just going to leave it alone.
Anyone feel the same?

I've heard that lots of people feel this way, and that they really love the look.

My e-ring will be platinum, but I have never owned a platinum piece before. I'm really interested in seeing which way that I will prefer it.

I love how the patina looks on my DH's platinum milgrain wedding band. I don't like it as much on my diamond rings, but I love it on a metal band.

I think I would hate it, but recently I started looking at platinum bands on ebay just in case I want to give it a try. I would like to try, but I'd need to find a super deal since it's just an experiment.

I haven't had mine polished in 11 years so I guess that means I like it .

When I got my grandmother's platinum rings they had never been polished and were an extremely dark gunmetal grey. I didn't even know they were platinum! I wish I had left the band unpolished and I've decided to stop polishing it so it can re-develop the patina.

I do get my ering and band polished frequently though. I just love the shininess. Plus, the store does it automatically when they clean, so even if I told them not to, I'm pretty sure they would occasionally make a mistake and polish them anyway (which is fine by me)

I always clean my ring so it is "silver" in color but not a sparkly as it is when it has been polished. I may feel differently about patina if the bands on my rings were thicker (both are 2mm or less) so scratches don't really show. I just think it has a lot of character.

Just curious - if I were to dislike the patina that my ring develops, how often should I get it polished? Does polishing it a lot cause any problems? My band will be 1.8 mm (I think, but maybe 2 mm), and plain platinum, so no intricate designs or anything like that. Also, how long does it take for the jewelry store to polish them?

I love it. For me, "wedding ring" means something that accompanies you through your marriage. My image of it is my dad's ring. It's just a slim rose gold circle. He and my mom have been married for 40 years now, and he tells me it was twice as wide when they got married ....

I'm planning to enjoy watching mine change through the years. 3 mm when we got married: let's see how platinum holds up!

I've heard that when gold is scratched, the metal is lost, but that when platinum is scratched, the metal is displaced - so the platinum metal is apparently not lost over time.

I haven't witnessed it myself, but from what I've read, I would expect your ring to stay basically the same weight over time. It will develop the patina though, and some people truly love the look and sentimental value of the patina - they say that it represents the time that it has been worn, and that it also gives the ring character.

I am a lover of patina on my rings. I do like to look down and see the lines of time softening the harsh glare of the metal. I have white gold so unfortunately the patina gets covered up every time I get them "dipped". At some point I will probably stop the dipping and just enjoy the true color of the white gold so I can have my patina.

Shitzu--platinum is gorgeous whether it is highly polished or not, imo. It will NOT hurt to have it polished every few months. Platinum just gets "displaced" not "removed" whereas gold will wear away after time and polishings, but wow does it take a long time to do so! I love plat for rings, I love the look of the patina it gets but I also loved having my platinum rings polished to a high luster--it just gave them a completely different look from time to time. May you have many years of enjoyment from yours!

My platinum wedding set is just over 3 years old, and both rings are still pretty shiny. They have scratches, but they haven't really developed a patina or a gunmetal look to them. If they did, I don't think it would bother me, it would just be a different look.

I haven't let any patina form on my rings. I'm too obsessed with having clean stones and shiny metal.
