Does a grading certificate''s date have any correlation to the diamond''s marketability?

Hi Pricescopers -

I have a sort of obscure question. I am considering a few stones. Most of them have GIA or AGS reports that are dated fairly recently ie: within the last 6 months. One of the stones that I''m looking at has a GIA report that''s dated early 2006. It happens to be a proprietary cut with strong fluorescence. Does that mean that this diamond has ''been on the market'' since it''s report date but has yet to be sold?

Just wondering if I should be reading anything into that?...

Thanks!

Impossible to know - could have been sitting on the shelf the entire time - perhaps an unpopular proprietary cut. But could have been bought and sold many times too. No way of knowing unless someone knows it''s history.

Probably has just been sitting unsold.

In any event, buy the stone, not the paper - just make sure the paper is an accurate characterization of the stone, so if you like it you can purchase with confidence.
