Do your pets have any weird habits?

My cat Heidi has a male cat gentleman caller.
He sits on the outside window ledge in the den and meows.
I tell her ''Your Kitty Friend is here'' and she comes
running and jumps into the window.
They make happy kitty noises and nuzzle each other
through the screen.
Bodhi''s girlfriend lives in the house behind us. Every time either of them are let out, they sniff the perimeter of the fence looking for each other. It''s adorable.

My dog is funny.

She waits for FI to tuck her in every night, and gives the most content yawn. She will not do this for me. I apparently don''t tuck her in correctly.
20.gif

If you ignore her for long enough, she will throw things at you. I don''t know how she aims, but she does. I was talking on the phone with my dad yesterday and she threw a cork at my head.
33.gif
And yes, it hit me. BTW, she is obsessed with wine corks and gets very excited when we open a bottle of wine.

She knows her dinner time (7pm) and she come over to you and stares at you when it is time. If you ignore her, she gets close to you and starts mouth breathing on your arm. This cracks me up!

She also likes to travel while she goes #2... I don''t know why, but she walks all over the place hunched over and pooping. Crazy dog.

I love reading all of these posts! Now I want PICTURES!!!!

D.O.G.
-is a chow chow but has the heart of a golden retriever. He''s a big mush ball of a dope.
-When taking a treat from a stranger, he will politely take it from their hand, then go somewhere alone and spit it out.
-If he thinks you''re trying to pull as fast one on him and slip him a mickey inside a treat he''ll bite the treat in half to inspect it before eating it.
-He loves ice cubes but only from a human''s glass and only at home.
-He thinks he''s a cat and grooms our cat Monty
-We suspect he thinks he''s monty''s mommy/daddy because we often catch him trying to pick him up and carry him. Except (like most men) he get''s the technique wrong and instead of grabbing Monty''s scruff and picking him up, he grabs his head/back of his neck and drags him across the floor.
-D.O.G. has a girlfriend named Luna. She''s our neighbor''s white German Shepard and he LOVES her. She feels the same and will often run up to our door and look in the side lights for him. Then they gaze at each other lovingly. D.O.G. waits to hear their door close (we live in a townhouse that shares a wall with theirs) and then runs to the door to see her. Then he runs to the back sliding door to see her walk into the back of the yard and then he runs upstairs to the nursery to see her walk past the fence.
-He has very particular places where he will poop.
-He loves being groomed and prances around after like he knows he''s hot sh*t.

Murphy-cat
-we call him twinkle toes because he prances around the house.
-He''s very petite, delicate, effeminate, and vain
-He likes to chew on the broom bristles
-He likes to sleep totally under the covers
-We call him a "rub slut" because he will literally rub himself all over your body to get attention
-He grooms DH when he''s sitting on the couch
-He''s been known to lick strangers'' heads-don''t ask, it was so creepy....
-He hates all of the other animals and wishes he only lived with me. Such a mama''s boy
-We suspect his ultimate goal in life is world domination
-He loves cheese and will eat anything with cheese on it, made from cheese or cheese itself.
-Is scared of small rodents
-will only drink water out of a human glass
-likes to be carried around i the crook of your arm like a human baby

Binks-cat
-when he lays down on his side his belly hangs out and he looks like a lounging harbor seal
-loves watching the toilet flush
-eats dog food
-has a fetish for feet and will make out with your toes-he licks and bites them and rubs his head against them.
-Is scared of small rodents
-likes to suckle on cashmere and other soft fabric

Monty-cat
-is D.O.G.''s trusty sidekick
-Allows the dog to drag him around the house by the head
-Eats dog food
-drinks out of the sink
-likes to pee in the bathroom sink (we''re puzzled by this recent development in his behavior and are going through many many clorox wipes!)
-would take on an animal 5 times his size given the chance

One of my cats is in love/obsessed with plastic. Kinda strange.
Mine too!! He will eat it just to make noise, then of course barf it back up somewhere for us to clean.

I''m convinced animals have a 6th sense that we humans, don''t.

Autumnovember- Your dog is just PRECIOUS!!

Tyson = male Chihuahua/Pug mix
Raine = female Jack Russell Terrier
Junior = male Shih Tzu (was my husband''s from before we got together)

- When my husband walks Junior, Tyson will stand at the sliding-glass door looking outside, until he sees my husband coming back, then he runs to wait for him at the door. He used to whine while doing this, but thankfully not anymore. He is such a daddy''s boy, even though he was the biggest mommy''s boy before me and my husband were together
20.gif

- I''ve had Tyson and Raine since they were itty bitty puppies. They absolutely love each other. They are together 99% of the time in the house (sleeping, playing, etc). They even groom each other. My husband thinks it''s kind of weird, I think it''s cute
9.gif
.

-Tyson lays on the back of our couches like a cat would. Actually, I really think he thinks he''s a cat, because he was the only dog in a house of 2 cats (when he was a puppy), for about 1 or 2 months before I got Raine.

- Junior is the weirdest dog I''ve ever known. You can offer him the same treat on 2 different days, 1 day he''ll really want it, and the next day, he''ll just leave it sitting on the floor. Same thing with how he feels about the other dogs; one day, he''ll want to play with them, etc, and the next day he won''t let them get within 2 feet of him.

- Junior also likes to sleep under the bed, under the side table in the living room, basically in any really dark spot.

- Raine is a serious attention-whore. She will literally push her way inbetween my husband and I, so we can pet her

. Doesn''t fly in our house!

We have animals with lots of personality. Let''s see...

Lilly -- 5 year old cat (about 10 pounds)
Likes to fetch pens.
REALLY likes sitting on FI and moving her claws through his chest hair.
Won''t eat meat except canned cat food.
Loves cheese (I used to have to shut her in a different room while we were eating if there was any cheese because she would climb into laps and try to get it off of our plates)
Eats parsley, cilantro, lettuce, tortilla chips, and raw mushrooms.
Is just learning how to meow.
Likes to watch the other cat who lives in the mirror (wine refrigerator, oven door, glass...).

Sven -- cat - about 2 years old (24 pounds)
Likes to pounce on imaginary things in the hallway.
Scoots on his belly as fast as he can against the wall at the end of the hall (about 3 feet) and then jumps to turn and does the same thing back the other direction (repeat a dozen times).
Likes to stretch out on the back of the couch and let himself sink in until he is kind of melted into the couch. (he''s about the same color and really just blends in)
Used to watch me take baths in the morning and run in with great big eyes and hit the water in the tub with his paw then run back out again.
Likes to drink out of the dog''s water bowl.

Sentra -- about 12 year old dog (71 pounds)
Hates having her bed washed. Every time I wash it she pulls it out of its spot and sleeps on the bare floor instead. When she finally lets it back in (a little) she stands over it and uses her feet to was it up into a heap and then flops on it. (big progress since she used to try -- and more than try -- to shred it).
Still thinks of herself as a little lap puppy.
23.gif

Has an impressive vocabulary.
Hides under (well, her head and front 1/3 of body) a coffee table when she is a little scared.
Is terrified of thunder and huddles in a corner in our bedroom for hours after a thunderstorm.

Watching the three of them together is just so great. Sven and Lilly tend to stay pretty close together much of the time. When I get up in the morning, Lilly greets me at the bedroom door and Sven is sitting on the guest room bed watching for me. They follow me around until FI gets up and then he walks out of the bedroom to find all three animals sitting around the door waiting for him. Lilly sits on him while he has coffee and breakfast. Sven pounces on imaginary stuff in the hall. Sentra watches while he eats.

Bed time is interesting. FI goes to the kitchen to take his medication and says "puppy potty". Sentra slides across the floor to run out into the backyard. FI goes in to brush his teeth and Sven follows him. I let Sentra back in (Lilly follows me the whole time) and walk down the hall. FI lays down in bed with a book when he finishes his teeth and Sven jumps up on the bed and stretches out on FI''s chest. Sentra paces at the end of the bed watching. (Lilly still following me). I pet Sven and then he reaches up until I let him lick my forehead. Then he''ll let me pick him up and carry him to the kitchen. (Sentra and Lilly trotting behind me). I carry Sven downstairs with the cat food can (Lilly and Sentra still following) and feed the cats. Sven nibbles first and then steps back to let Lilly have a turn. (repeat for awhile). Then Sentra RUNS up the stairs and I give her her can of dog food. By then, Sven is done with his food and RUNS up the stairs and down the hall to sit on FI''s chest again.

Sven and Lilly sit at the table with us for Shabbat dinner. Each on their own chair. Sentra sits on the floor next to FI when she isn''t circling the table.

Oscar the cat has a very definite way of communicating. He sits in the center hallyway and growls in a sharp tone. I go to him and say "Show me"...and he leads me where he wants to go: into the TV room means "ahem, it's time to clean the litterbox". If he goes into the kitchen it means his bowls are in need of replenishing. If he runs into the living room it means it's cuddle time on the couch.

When my husband goes into the bathroom Oscar sits outside the door and whines until he comes out.

Bentley Cat understands English, although he has a few funny interpretations. Every night (or when he''s being bad), I tell him to go to bed, and he always goes upstairs, gets in DH''s and my bed, and curls up. He also knows the word "chicken" because he loves it, although my best friend started calling HIM "chicken" so now the cat thinks his name is Chicken. He hates "bears." One of our neighbors has a cat that loves to hang out on our patio and taunt Bentley through the window. The first time the cat did this, I was being goofy and said, "Bentley, what''s out there? BEARS?! Really?" It became kind of a joke with me and DH, but it stuck, so now we call the neighbor''s cat "Bear," and Bentley starts growling any time he hears the word and takes off running for the window.

He''s terrified of storms, so as soon as he hears the first rumble of thunder, he starts yowling then hides under our bed.

He throws up in the toilet. He''s always done this weird meow before throwing up, so I started grabbing him and holding him over the toilet when I knew it was coming, and now he''ll go run in there himself when he has the occasional hairball, stand on the toilet seat, and do his thing. He''s very fussy about things being clean, so he''ll come and get me to flush it for him immediately afterward. He also comes to get me any time he finds something he doesn''t like, like if he''s accidentally shoveled something over the edge of his litter box, or if my stepson has dropped food under the table, whatever. The cat can''t stand it.

He always tries to bury his food bowl when he''s done eating. He also refuses to eat unless his bowl is completely full, and his water must be lukewarm before he''ll drink it. Give the cat cold water, and he growls at you like you tried to kill him.

He equates being awake with having your eyes open. For this reason, if you''re sleeping and he wants you to get up and feed him, he''ll stand on you, put his paws on your eyebrows and push to open your eyes. If this doesn''t work, he''ll bite your nose. I started sleeping with an eye mask just to try to get him to stop (he never does this to DH, only me), but it didn''t work. He just slides his paws underneath the mask!

doodle, you have got quite the character in that cat!

Monty-cat

-likes to pee in the bathroom sink (we're puzzled by this recent development in his behavior and are going through many many clorox wipes!)

HH, are you certain he doesn't have a urinary tract infection? Sometimes with cats, peeing in the sink or tub is the first warning signal you'll get from them if they're having bladder issues. If he's just recently started doing this, I would consider taking him in for a checkup just to be on the safe side.

Nope-we have taken him in already to have it checked.

We think we''ve figured it out though. All of our cats like to visit us in the bathroom and cats are smart. They know what we''re doing when we''re on the toilet. And Binks has taught Monty that he can drink from the toilet and Monty also drinks from the sink as well. What do toilets and bathroom sinks have in common? They''re both round white porcelain objects, so they both look and feel very similar to each other. So we surmise that he thinks the sink is a smaller toilet-a toilet that''s the perfect size for him.

LOL! Sometimes cats are just nuts! I''m so glad you already got the free and clear from your vet! I should''ve known that you''d be lightyears ahead of me on that!

A picture for Haven. You can see how Otto is touching a kleenex box and bits of phonebook. lol He likes having his things around him when he's lounging.

I forgot to mention that Hannah looooves to sleep up on the dining room chairs. It's like her little cave. DH doesn't like her up there because he doesn't want them covered with hair (and she tends to dig at the cushions), so I have to chase her off about once a day. She won't get off when I tell her to from the living room, but the second I get up and walk over she's off like a shot. Poor bunny just wants to take a nap!

Our cat Garett will stick his paw into the water bowl and lick the water off (
14.gif
) instead of drinking like a normal animal
Haahaa, one of my cats does this... it is very annoying when she decides to do this with my glass of milk in the morning... double
14.gif

This same cat also flops everywhere... her favorite place to flop is on the front door mat (and if you want to open the front door you literally have to push her out of the way with the door before she will even think about moving).

When we let our dogs out to do their business our cat will stand at the door and CRY to get out... this is the only time she does it.

Same cat will "talk" back to you, just say her name and she always responds

D.O.G. wont poop in front of me unless it''s a serious emergency, like DH is traveling and there''s no one else to walk him. Then he''ll do it but he expects me to turn my back.

One of my cats likes to lick the shower curtain when I am showering
40.gif

the other is Obsessed with pipe cleaners and hair lackeys. He fetches them like a dog and expects you to throw them for him. He can catch them in mid air too. Sometimes when he is being particularly obsessive I will wake up in the morning with a pipe cleaner or hair lackey on my face and Jet will be sitting there waiting for me to throw it.

He can also open the doors in the house which was cute at first but now we are worried he will let himself outside one day so we have to keep the front door locked.

This is an awesome thread!

Pete prefers dirty water to clean water. At first I thought he didnt like the taste of our tap water because I read that it can have chlorine so I tried filtered water. Nope, he prefers dirty water. He will have good clean water in a freshly washed dish and after I take a shower jump right in and lick all the water he can get from the bottom. He will also prefer rain water that has collected outside in something with dead moths and whatever to clean water.

Kitty tells me about the food and water situation every day when I get home from work. I dont even understand how I know that is what she is saying, but before I put down my keys I know what the status of food and water is.

Pete loves bleach too. About twice a year I will thoroughly bleach all of my tile floors. He will roll around all over it and lick it. He also loves to lick the lotion off my skin.

My newest edition Smalls sleeps with her face flat on whatever rug she is sleeping on. At first I was worried because her face is literaly smashed against the rug, but she is breathing so I leave her alone. She also only moves her butt when she wants to reposition and she is sleepy. She doesnt get up and move. Her rear end will drag her front end until she is comfortable.

And lastly, all of my cats sigh. I have never seen an animal do this, but they all sigh just like a human.

Yes!
She loves to be in the foyer. So everytime I come home work she literally bows down to me like I am Queen Victoria. Drives me crazy!

Hah! Ours do that too

haha I love reading all of these!

Our cat Merlot gets freaked out by our dog. But, when she comes down the stairs, instead of being sneaky, she cries and meows loudly almost like "come get me dog" but then she runs away.

Our dog Murphy drinks water from rain puddles and the gutters, he will also roll around in the grass when it''s wet, and did this in the last snowfall of the season (he''s a pup so it''s the only one he saw). He also hates the sun, he will sit in the shade and look at me like "really?" when he doesn''t want to walk anymore. He also snores very loudly-which is actually really cute.

Our other cat Mystique is just a sneak and scared of the dog still.

My bro''s cat will lick plastic, shower curtains, and grilled cheese sandwiches.

I love this thread. It''s so funny how many different personalities our pets have!

Our dog, Murray, snorkels for food out of water dishes. Our other dog is a messy eater and many bits of kibble end up in her water dish. Murray submerges his snout, goes after the kibble like he''s bobbing for apples, all the while blowing bubbles out of his nose very loudly. We can hear it throughout the entire house. When we first got him as a rescue, it took us about three weeks to figure out where the bubbling noise was coming from - we thought we had a plumbing problem.

A former dog, Sophie, loved those little perfume samples found in magazines and circulars. We''d open them up, put them on the floor, and she''d flop down and wiggle her entire body (130 lbs) all over the perfume patches.

Our 11 year old Sammy has decided for the past few years to take his water from the dish with his right paw and then lick the paw.
33.gif

I mentioned this to our vet who suggested we get him a teacup.
9.gif

As with all animals, the ones in my life have been nuts, here is a small sample.
My sweet Odin likes to chew on plastic. Not eat it, not swollow it, just chew a little. He also loves lettace as a treat, again for chewing, not swallowing. The best was that I used to keep those fur mice in my desk until I could cut the tails off of them. (Thank you to the poster here, who I can''t remember, who posted about how the tails can actually be fatal). He knew which drawer I kept them in and would fish them out at night. That doesn''t sound odd, but the drawer was always closed the next morning and I had an old computer in the drawer, so it weighed about 3 times what he did.

He also jumps up on the bed at night and cries as he wanders over to my head. He then curls up on my head and nurses an old sweater for 5-10 minutes before leaving. It is very sweet, we don''t know why he cries so much first, not so much fun and drives DH crazy since I go to bed after him.

My parent''s oldest and my girl cat both have a special toy that when they get a hold of it, they carry it around and yowl. I mean REALLY loud. My parents cat is deaf, so now does it even loader and only when everyone has gone to bed and they have that toy. None of the other cats do it.

Maggie is also a lover. I don''t mean likes affection, I mean if a man comes into the house he will not be allowed any peace until he has rubbed every inch of her at least twice.

My parents oldest cat Dutchess is so smart, she can turn on the facuet, turn doorknobs, turn on lightswitches and possibly things I don''t even know about. When we used to give her treats on Sundays, she would wake us up first thing those morings, but no other day of the week.

She is also a cranky old woman who has a rivalry with my grandma. They hate each other and one can''t die until the other does. Whenever grandma visits, she stays in the cats favorite room. So how does Dutchess deal with this or anyone else she doesn''t like in the room? During the middle of the night, she gets sick where they will step the next morning when they get up. I love that cat, I will miss her so much when her time comes.

Emma poops in the bathtub or bathroom sink when the litter box isn''t up to her standards.

Charlie constantly "cleans" random spaces when there is nothing to clean. You know when cats do this, but its normally in a litter box and they are burying poops or pee clumps. No, he does this to air. Phantom poops?

Charlie must sit on your lap when you''re sitting on the toilet. He does this to guests too who let him into the bathroom. He is too big to fit comfortably now so I end up holding his overflow of limps on my lap. I have long femurs too!

My Lab doesn't drink water, he EATS it. Instead of lapping it up with his tongue he scuba dives down to the bottom of the bowl by submerging his entire head, opens his mouth to drink, and sloshes water everywhere.
